    0-400 Wings

I have heard about (and think I’ve seen videos) but never tried, or wanted to. Not a big fan of dirty smoke or ash blowing on food. Seems to me too many variables to be ‘easy’. For example number, size & temp of wings going in, time & temp curve for specific cooker, and so on. I prefer to...

    Thermoworks RFX First Impressions

Thanks for starting this thread! Yes, I’ve had ours on charger overnite, similar results; 88%. I’m currently leaving it on unplugged to drain it. It’s been transmitting 6 1/2 hours, 88% to 79%. Wondering if their charge indicator software is accurate. Not a breaker, I didn't buy it for its...

    My Foodsaver went kaput

I think it depends on what your primary use is/will be. For example, we just returned from Sam’s with a 17lb prime brisket and two chuck roasts (11lbs) which I’ll be grinding & vac sealing this afternoon. That’s close to 40 vac pkgs of ground meat. I’ve attempted that with an external but never...

Not sure about this one or where to put it a birdrock barbecue prep tub

FWIW, I’ve got something similar, ordered from ATBBQ. Use it constantly. It’s a seasoning tub. ”Season high for better coverage” they say. “You made a mess on the counter” wife says. Now everyone wins! Seriously, a great prep gadget.

I'm finally finished and just in time for the big smoke....

Thank you, I’m honored indeed. You did a great job and your cooker looks fantastic! Full disclosure: might be classic case of the blind leading the crippled <huge grin!!>; i knew nothing when I built mine. I hope yours cooks as well and are as happy as I am with mine. It sounds like you are...

Thermodynamics of evaporative cooling, and humidity.

In a word, yes. Bernoulli states that faster moving air = lower pressure = lower boiling point, more evaporation. Probably not hugely significant but nevertheless.

    homemade hamburger meat?

Ditto all. Picked up couple packers (Kroger sale $1.87) and couple chucks, we have Grind Day now and then. Not sure we’re saving any money, but the flavor is thru the roof; once you go grind, you’ll never go back to bought. I see a grinder in your future😉

Thermodynamics of evaporative cooling, and humidity.

At BBQ temperatures (225F or higher) water is entirely gaseous and obeys the Ideal Gas law; there is no water vapor, only water weight per volume of gas. Yes, ambient conditions (eg humidity) affect combustion, combustion products and the amount of fuel used. In an open system the meat is below...

Cheap brisket into the trash can

    So sorry for the ‘click-bait’!!🫣😁

Thermodynamics of evaporative cooling, and humidity.

At bbq temperatures, water is by definition superheated; ie above vaporization temperature (except within the boundary layer) and therefore the term ‘humidity’ has little meaning. Water, whether on the surface of a water pan or brisket vaporizes by absorbing enormous amounts of energy within the...
