Decided to have a loaded twice-baked and NY Strip the other weeknight. I wanted to run the potato to 205F and the steak to 125F on the GrillGrates. Stuck one RFX in the tater, one in the Strip and slapped the Gateway on the patio door.
From the Strip to the Gateway goes thru 10ga Yoder, some...
Something aesthetic about foil boat; I just like the aerodynamics as opposed to the ‘cybertruck’ brick of a pan. I do think the foil holds the brisket shape better. I think an argument can be made for better conductive heat transfer thru a thin foil - thin liquid layer vs a convective liquid...
Tired, wasn’t paying attention, turned ankle and fell on the concrete outside Krogers. Not that falling is a big deal, I’m good at it and fall regularly. Luckily, I learned to fall properly as a lad and it’s all automatic. But boy, that ’crete is hard. Sore for a week. Worst part was when this...
Glad to hear Billows works as I haven’t tried that yet, although I shouldn’t be surprised; works very well on my Signals. I just might have to add to my Top Reasons To Use RFX (rotisserie, frying, SV): UDS! It will be nice not to need to pop the lid so often to check temps!
Note to ThermoWorks: If ever you decide to include “some enhancements to their application for preconfigured cooks, etc.“, PLEEEASE provide a simple way to turn it off. Please, I’m begging you. Do not turn your product into a Meater2+. I have one and it’s a pain to ‘trick’ it into working around...
For comp guys this is a big deal, which is why I think they’ll make the Gateway ‘dual freq’ soon. The only other option (which I haven’t tried) is to run the Gateway thru a local hotspot. Even so, that would decimate the range, all those other reasons to hate bluetooth.
From my conversation with TW, the RFX has a ‘heartbeat’ in addition to the TBTI. When asked if this isn’t redundant to the TBTI the answer was yes and would be eventually phased out to become totally delta-T triggered. I suspect this is was a residual artifact from development. When the RFX...
Don’t think that’s the case. At present, the Gateway doesn’t ‘speak’ bluetooth. Wi-fi is currently required (stay tuned). Probe to Gateway (to wi-fi) to Cloud then device.
To be clear, what is the latest Gateway firmware? Mine shows “1.1.26-44“.
My app version shows “1.61.6+385” which is the latest AppStore has.
It would also be helpful to know TW’s latest firmware for the RFX probe. Mine shows “1.2.1”.
BTW, I highly recommend everyone (if haven’t already)...
RFX SV Cook
Tonight I SV reheated some brisket to chop for tacos. This was my second cook using the RFX. For those more interested in the RFX rather than my cooking, here’s the salient stuff:
The Gateway was at 92% and unplugged. PSPTIR=60sec (irrelevant, since not using the PSP).
The RFX MEAT...
I can heartily recommend ThermoWorks’ Signals. It has four channels, one of which you can use for a pit probe, three for different meats. It has a large, easy to read display. I know you don’t want a phone app; Signals does need a phone app (or what I use indoors, an iPad app) but it has a great...

Selected 5 minutes again, ran a 17 minute, showed readings at least once a minute – 1 reading for each thermometer in the probe and the average reading. So 5 readings were logged for the session at least once every minute. Did not have anything to do the temperature interval or the...
Let’s consider what the Gateway does: 1) Reports the Pro-Series Probe (PSP) reading to the cloud. 2) relays RFX MEAT probe(s) readings to the cloud.
My understanding is the first is (fairly) straightforward, it reports the reading from the PSP according to the interval setting (15, 30 or 60...
So, for my first RFX cook, I made Country Ribs. I figured the (relatively) high cook and submerged braise would test the probe. Apologies in advance for scanty data; my first CR and first RFX cook, and fairly new to the YS640S also.

These were bone-in. Seasoned up with MC Holy Cow, Tiger Sauce...
