    OKJ Highlander question

I'll take a stab at this. I have the Brinkmann trailmaster horizontal, similar to the OKJ you are looking at. I average 12lbs of charcoal, lump an briquets, four 3x12" pieces of oak, and five to six fist sized pieces of hickory each smoke. There are times I can't get the temp low enough, there...

    Too hot

Some of the gas smokers have a secondary setting on the valve. Light it, turn it all the way up, then turn it down and hope it has the lower setting. Sorry I can't help more than that.

    anyone have success with iGrill?

I love mine, but am usually within twenty feet so I can't say much about the range. When you power it off make sure you hold the power button until it displays "off", I think that is causing your battery drain issues, it will tell you when it's off so you don't have to guess.

    Mini- WSM Build Plans

I was just about to start a new thread on this very subject, glad I found this thread! Cabela's has the SMJ Gold on sale right now but I couldn't find a pot anywhere for it. I may just pick up the SMJ and sit on it until I find something to fit it at a later date. The drum looks nice, but $45...

Pellet smokers / ash in food

I can't offer much help, but is the wind blowing into the intake vents when you are cooking? Also, the make and model of your smoker will help wiser people answer your questions better.

    Well.... There is always MEK?

    Commercial fridge build.

I fail to see how a hot wire can hurt the interior walls? I don't have to use rebar, there are many options for creating a hole and passing a thin wire through. As you put it, it seems like I'm trying to create the Grand Canyon with a spade shovel? Ever seen a Colman "gas tree"? I was one of the...

    Commercial fridge build.

There was another builder that used rebar to get a chainsaw chain through to cut it out. Use the rebar to punch a hole then bailing wire to feed the thinner wire through the hole, or all-thread, or smaller pipe etc.

Good points, thanks! I'd overlooked "burning it in" which I'll have to do if I paint the interior. As for finishing in the oven, no way we can do that with the size of the oven and amounts he's thinking about turning out. I guess it was wishful thinking on my part to not have to mess with the...

    Where is the heat going

Good call, I made that mistake on my first attempt with a convection plate, it was too low and the lava rock was too high. It chocked off the heat from the firebox!

    Where is the heat going

Is the CC door sealed good? Have you tried lowering the exhaust to grate level? These cheap offsets can make you pull your hair out! I have the Brinkmann trailmaster le, I've sealed up the fire box to cc, the two halves of the firebox, added a 16ga convection plate, water pan and lava rock as...

What do you who went to electric from wood think?

Buddy has the MES30 and loves it, but I can't say either way. But here's where I'm at. I bought the Brinkmann Trailmaster offset with the mentality I could cook lots on it! Well, I can, but when it's just my wife, son and I, I've got to cook lots of stuff to make it worth my time and the...

    Wanting to build a yarkosmoker's fireplace/smoker

Hey Tom! Here in KS we run footings 36" deep to get below the frost line, anything less has a chance of being pushed up. Also keep in mind where you are in relation to the river, here in Rose Hill we have hard pack clay, downtown, think Riverside, it's all sand, west of West st you get back into...

Yes, mine is twice that size with the doule doors. Getting 220v is possible, but I really like the pellet feeder, the control unit, everything, in one unit. It just makes it simple and easy. Ii looked it over a bit more the other night, the grates are plastic coated so will either have to be...

    Thermometer Question

It's short and has a blunt end, I guess you could use one of the other probes to poke a hole then shove it in? But I really like being able to check pit temp and food in a glance, so it works for me.

Mama wanted FOB baby backs, a foil convert.

See, I always said I liked more bite or pull to them as well, but the foiled ones were just so much more tender and juicy, I can live without that bite!

    Thermometer Question

I looked at them all, I liked Cappec for the price but after reading reviews, mainly Amazon, I decided against those units. I really liked Maverick because all the positive reviews, a friend has one and loves it and most are happy other than a few interface issues. But I really didn't need the...
