Wow.. that's cool. I had no clue you could do that. Do you think it would work in a propane smoker as well, or does that trick work mostly with electric?
Cheers,
Scott
That's not a bad suggestion, but my vision is for smoking turkeys through the night. I suppose I could relocate the baby monitor next to the smoker. Not sure how the wife would feel about that.

So I wrote that post while a smoke was rolling, and before I ate the goodies. I was underwhelmed. It was a small smoke just for my wife and I. Some bratwursts and some nuts. I have done brats and nuts in the past and they have come out fantastic. The smoke just wasn't powerful enough. I...
I want to build a PID temp controller for my GOSM. I BBQ'd for a party with a bunch of friends two weeks ago and they thought I was crazy to check the temp every 20-30 minutes for a 3 hour smoke. I told them I really felt I needed to. I'm sure over time I'll get better and need to check less...
I have done two smokes since I posted. I have taken into consideration everything everyone has suggested. Mostly to use a mix of chips and chunks, and to not fully pack the wood box like I had been. Both smokes have produced much better smoke. The smoke I have going now (about two hours in)...
I smoked yesterday and put a pile of small chips on the bottom and 3 large chunks on top with plenty of space between them. I didn't soak them and probably should have. I had a flare up about 45 minutes into the smoke and the temp was a pain to control due to this, not to mention the billowing...
Thanks guys. This is good stuff. I will try to not pack it tight the next time. I think the complaints I've read about the wood box being too small has led me to try to pack it in. Two days ago I smoked and the lid didn't rest on the box, it was resting on the wood. I think I need to dial...
Maybe I'm packing the wood in too tightly? When you put the chunks and chips in the box, do you make sure there's room for air movement? I've been filling it up like I'm playing Tetris.
I'll give it a shot. I'm smoking a couple of times this weekend so I'll have some time to get it right.
I'm wondering if the built in thermometer is part of the problem.

To make sure I understand what you are suggesting that is different than what I'm doing is to mix chunks with chips, and not to use foil. Are you setting the temp on high until it reaches 250F, or something closer to what you believe the target setting would be, somewhere just south of medium...
To set expectations, I'm a newbie so I don't know what I'm talking about.
From talking to some friends I should expect my smoker to produce smoke for about two hours and then it's just a big oven after that. I have smoked four times and three of those four times I got smoke for about 30...
I just tested it without being logged in. It does it even when I am not logged in and even while at work so it isn't related to something I'm doing on my machines at home.
If I take the direct URL to this thread and paste it into any browser it will display this thread, and a second later load...
I don't believe the notification email is the problem. I can reproduce it in other ways. If I go to User CP it'll display the control panel and then auto load the main page. The only way I can get to the Use CP is to very very quickly click on one of the links. It'll load the main page, then...
When I get a notification email and select the URL to the latest post, it loads and then autoloads the main page. Then I need to go find the post on my own rather than the direct link working. Does anyone else observe this behavior?

From what I've read it's all about the regulator pressure. I can't find any credible references what the regulator is set for that comes with the GOSM. Do you happen to know?
Cheers,
Scott
Thanks. I have a friend that's big into smoking and he highly recommended this unit. It's unbelievable it is so popular and the price is $99. You'd think the demand would cause the price to go up.
Now if only I can figure out if that Sentry will work on this unit...
