    nice.maybe i need to calibrate thermometer.mine wrinkle bad. i use 12 inch casings and shower in cold tapwater.let sit in room temp and then into fridge. they hava a sprocket look to them.edible and not too dry,just look funny.

    i got a nu 32 manual with a pulley and a 1700 rpm motor and mounted it on an old air compressor. the 3200 on it was shot and its mobile. we call it the rhino grinder. ps. build safety shields for belts!!!!!!! they are non forgiving.

    fibrous or collagen for summer sausage? i hear the collagen is cheaper and does not wrinkle up. i am getting ready to buy a 1000 meter roll. have used fibrous. will try collagen brfore i order 3280 ft[1000 meter] roll. thanks.

    i got my skillsaw out and cur some oak scraps and some 1 in dia hickory and loaded up a chip pan and that brought temp to 180 and after an hour internal was 156. these hot plates from g e do not work well by themselves. the only good may be the temp would nt come past 160 and internal past 140...

    i may just shim the hotplates up under the drum so the drum is sitting on the two hotplates.lol i have the drum sitting on concrete blocks. going to try some venting first before i fry all the wiring.

    if i cut two round holes so only heating area is inside the drum help any? i am sure this is a safety device and would like to be able to control temp if possible.thanks

    thanks for the info. i have the hotplates cord exposed very little to heat. i double taped them and they exit to the rear of hotplate. when i bypass the thermostat that means i have no control correct? thanks

    its a ge hotplate that wal mart sells. i have nt done anything to it,yet. got back from hunting and checked everything and re hung summer sausages. i have noticed the thermostats kicking out even with it on high.

    yes i used a big diameter extension cord i use for ac in building. i will try the charcol deal.and check to make sure both hotplates were working. thanks

    got me 2 ge 1000 watt hotplates for my drum and its 28 degrees outside, i guess,i am hot! insulated the outside of drum in shed and could only get 160 degrees. after 7 hrs internal temp of meat is only 140 and guess what? i am going hunting.so i bring summer sausages in the house and put on top...

    i will either do that or add a round plate with two holes the size eyes above them so only the heating element is exposed to heat.

    i converted my 55 gal drum smoker to electric using 2,1000 watt ge hot plates.i am going to use one for the smoke and one for heat. will the cords and units take the 180 deg heat with the units sitting on bricks or should i get some split wire shields like on car wires around engine?

    would a 1500 watt brinkman electric heating element be enough to get an uds to 220 degrees? i see it has chip box mounted on top but has no thermostat. i can always open a stack on top if too hot. its either that or 2, 1000 watt hot plates. smoking summer sausage only.thanks.
