Here's what I cobbled together. I had a piece of 1/8" mesh SS screen. The ends are 1 1/2" copper. One end is a cap and the other just pipe and I beveled down the end a little. I have since removed the hose clamp as it wasn't necessary. I get 4 hours and a bit with Traeger pellets.
Simply a matter of changing or drilling out the orifice that the gas comes out of. You should be able to pick up a new orifice at a place that sells higher end barbques. Natural gas needs a larger orifice than propane. After that it should be seamless. You'll never know the difference. I've...
Just for the sake of debate, how is this different from a propane furnace, fridge, heater or other appliance as long as it's properly maintained and working correctly? An extra measure of safety could be obtained by adding a propane detector like they have in RV's. Just sayin'.
Hi all,
I posted this in the announcements section, but thought that since it's a Canadian thing, it might more properly belong here.
Costco Canada has a coupon out for a decent food saver vac sealer for $125.00 and another coupon for a good deal on the bags. Model 4880 if you want to do a...
Nice looking rig Goliath. I like your smoke generator. Is that 4" steel square tubing? I have a piece of 5" that I was figuring on using for the same thing. Not because I think bigger is better, it just happens to be what I have laying around.
Hi from Saskatchewan. I'm just getting started. Cobbled together a tube style smoke generator and smoked some cheese the other day out on my blacksmithing forge. Looking forward to some warmer weather so I can put together a decent smoker out of my odds and ends.
Hey Suzieqz,
It was just Supermarket "lite" cheddar. In Canada they call sharp cheddar "old". They also have mild and medium. This was old. Hen I started it was normal, nice and moist, but I unwrapped it and set it in the fridge overnight to get ready for smoking. In the morning, the...
Hi folks,
Just thought I'd pass this along to those of who (like me) don't have a decent vacuum sealer. Food saver model 4880 for $125.00 with the Coupon, valid Jan. 26 - Feb. 1
Thanks Suzieqz,
Yes, I intend to let it mellow. The reason that I tried it was to see if it had dried out all the way through and as it turns out, the damage was just on the surface.
Thanks MJeffcoat.
I tried a little just now and it looks worse than it is. The cracks are maybe maximum 1/16" or less and once you get below the "rind" the cheese looks quite normal and moist. The taste was a little harsh of course, but that will no doubt improve with a little time.
Hi folks,
First post, first time smoking anything besides tobacco and it's been quite a while since I did that.
I'm smoking cheese today in Saskatchewan, Canada and it's in the neighbourhood of 10 below zero Fahrenheit, so no real issues with melting the cheese.
Here's my rig: For a smoke box...
