How did you come up with your screen name?

Even as a kid I was always having a fire up the woods or on the beach. It was no surprise to my friends that when I got older I joined the firie’s brigade, every one knows that fires are the best Piro’s. I am into fire magic, got umpteen different stoves, can start fires with all sorts of...

    Piro's first smoke

Just had a feed of Smoked brisket, roast spuds and Brussels sprouts. I put the brisket in a tray and covered it with gravel and popped it in the oven for ½Hr. Good grub, very tender and the wife liked it, so next time in am at the cottage I will be smoking again.

    Piro's first smoke

Gave my new offset smoker its first run yesterday, it was a very steep learning curve. I had bought a brisket and steeped it in sea salt water most of the previous day then dried it of. I then marinade it in sweet chilli sauce and condemned it to a night in the fridge in a sealed bag My rub...

    Piro’s New Side Box

On the box it claims that it is a Portland and the brand name is Dazzlers, but I suspect that is was manufactured in the Orient. It is defiantly an el cheepo, it’s hard to get decent smokers this side of the pond. I have spotted the same model under different names, some at rather inflated...

    Home Brewing

Would that be Newcastle Brown, back in the 60s I herd tell that they had a special hospital ward in Newcastle for people suffering the effects of the stuff. Purchasing wood

Living in a country that doesn’t have a great history of home smoking or barbequing I thought I was going to have mega problems getting wood. Walked into my local gardening mega store this morning and found they had a selection of chipped wood on display. A bit pricy at £3.90 for 3Lbs but at...

    Home Brewing

Been a home brewer since the 60’s and brewed some pretty ruff stuff back then. Exploding bottles, sore gut, the lot. As the years past I got into using pressure barrels rather than bottles, brewed most things, the beer that you brew today is defiantly a vast improvement and can be as good as...

    Is your beer vegan?

For many years it was nothing but African Lager (Guinness) for me, but I have become a fan of reel ales like Bitter & Twisted. My local in the southwest has 3 different reel ales each week, beer heaven. I still wouldn’t drink the aptly named Skull Crusher from the Orkneys, I hear it is 12% and...
