    grill/grate thermo. with capillary

Ken, Let me see if I can get some pics of my set up in the next few days.  I installed both a PID controller w/thermocouple and SSR and the panel display w/thermocouple in an old tackle box.  I cut out areas for the displays in the front of the box and the cables exit the back.  It'll be...

    grill/grate thermo. with capillary

Noob speaking here, FWIW You're looking for a permanent mounted temp sensor?  I think what you'd want is a k-type thermocouple to a panel meter.  I have this one: http://www.auberins.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=3&products_id=101 with this panel meter...

    Thermometer's

Duggy, I'm just a noob here, but I think you'd calibrate your thermo by measuring the thermo against a known value.  Icewater=32 F......boiling water = ~212F (make sure you adjust for your local altitude) Best

Your element looks great, especially for $8.  Looks like it'd be easy to mount, too.  Angle bracket bolted to drum and element bolted to bracket.  Well done!  Got a link for the element?  Thanks

Flyweed, found my open head drum from a diesel fuel/asphalt place.  Still need to burn it.  The barrels are around, you just have to look a bit for them. I found this heating element.  It's 110v/1650 watt.  Not sure if I'll get enough BTU for proper smoke temps in the drum, but I'm gonna give...

Dan, I'm gathering the pieces to build an UDS with a 1650W heating element, controlled with PID, SSR....  The PID and SSR are left-overs from a home brewery. I'll be following this thread with interest. Thanks  BTW - Do I "know" you from HBT?

    Greetings from Mansfield, Oh

Hello all.  I've been home brewing for a few years and ~800 gallon now.  Have smoked a few butts and yard strutters over the past few months on my FIL's offset.  Looking to build a UDS with some modifications.  Looking forward to reading and learning.  Cheers!

    eSmoking has been achieved!

Well done!  I've been thinking about a electric build. Question(s) for you:  I've a PID and thermocouple laying around from a home brewery build.  I'm thinking of building an e-UDS using this PID  http://www.auberins.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=132 and connect via...
