    Fire box size

The Calculators are based on 1/3 the cook chamber size for the firebox.  You used 30% which is slightly smaller then 33.3333%.  This is where your difference is with the calculator.  If anything err on the slightly larger size.

Just a little performance update.  During his burn in he was able to maintain temps above 400 burning sticks.  So far he has cooked a pork loin and a whole chicken.  Burning lump and adding sticks for flavor with the unit wide open, it maintains 275 with no problem.  Has to add a stick and some...

    Materials question.

Do you have a local metal supplier?  If so, just ask for hot rolled steel.  The most common available hot rolled is A36.   If they carry it, cold rolled plate is alot nicer to work with, but a little more money.  Cold rolled is a bit tougher and is typically a 1018 steel.  The hot rolled has a...

I finished my First R F build Step By Step W/Qview

Looks good Ahron.  I don't have a pic right now, but my buddy took a piece of round tube, cut in half lengthwise,  and welded it over the damper rod.  He drilled a hole through the center of the tube and welded a nut to it.  I then added a handle to this so that you can move the damper anywhere...

Hey Bear, not many shops left here in Pa and many more closing every day.  I would love to make my living out of my shop, but the economy is just too soft to give it a try right now.  Maybe in the future I will go for it, but for now I will concede to corporate america and continue with a weekly...
