    Stick Burner Or Pellet Grill

This is something I have been going back and forth about recently. I love to tend the fire, and you will never get the same quality product from the pellet than you will with a real raging wood (haha raging wood) fire. There really is a big sense of pride in knowing that YOU smoked that brisket...

Comment by 'djjubbajubba' in media 'Tuning Plates.jpg'

Question, when installing the tuning plates, does the gap in between the plates change from right to left? Or the same gap all across?

    Charcoal basket

I know I'm late to the ball here, by a few years, but I just saw this in my smoker journey. You could have got some u shaped tube stock and cut it so you could slide it around the expanded steel you already had set up for the snake. That would allow you to use is as abnormal basket, then slide...

    New box opinions

Currently, I'm using the grate on the bottom of the fire box. I'm moding out my char griller duo into a real growed up smoker. Anything I do will be stainless. The only reason why I ask the question is I have seen them both ways, but I can get scrap perforated from my work. Save me a bit of money.

    Tips for seasoning

Thanks, guys. I've got mine on a large hearth next to my shed. I'm going to move it near my garden so it gets more sunshine. I just don't want my wood to go to waste like the wood that was already stacked on it when we moved in (I'm pretty sure it's been there a while, though).

    New Bandera door seal

I'm in the same boat with my chargrilled. Surprise, surprise. Same company makes both.

    Tips for seasoning

A little back story about me: I grew up in Southern California (in virginia now) where we had a fire in the fireplace, maybe, twice a year. Fire wood was purchased at the corner store. Now, to my topic. I recently found a guy locally that had downed a pecan tree, and got two 5 foot logs from...

    Does anyone else hate kingsford?

    Does anyone else hate kingsford?

Ugh! I keep hearing people talk about academy. I only imagine they have a great smoker section. I used to live in Jacksonville, FL where they had them, but never went in. Now, I don't live near one.

You normally find the RO briquettes. I guess it's just a matter of taste. I rather use lump, but to each their own. The briquettes were the only thing I've ever used from RO (lowes gave military a free bag for Labor Day. Couldn't pass that up).

    Does anyone else hate kingsford?

Thank you, Shipmate, I had not read your RO comparison, but that's some good information right there. I was super disappointed when I came out to my box today expecting a bunch of unspent coals, and found that (clearly from what you mentioned about them being less dense) even though they burned...

    Does anyone else hate kingsford?

when I started, I had some real heat management problems. I thought it was just a really steep learning curve. I was using kingsford charcoal because I always thought of it as the good stuff. I got some lump, and loved that. Then I switched to the royal oak briquettes and started getting better...

    Learning quickly

Hey, guys. I'm Jered. Originally from California, but living in Virginia because of the navy. Just wanted to get on here and say hi. For a few years, I had an electric smoker that produced smoked meat. I could never really call is barbeque. It didn't have the same flavor, texture, bark... of...

    useing blackberry wood for smoking

So, has anyone tried this yet? This post is from a few years ago. I just cut down a plant that had a lot of stray, dead canes. I would love to try them in the smoker after a little seasoning time.
