    Brick Smoker Upgrading

You mean you actually noticed my "little mess" here and there? OMG, I have absolutely zero organizational skills. It's all I can do to keep some sort of path from one end of my shop to the other. Never mind when I have to move a piano from one end of the shop to the other! I figure it's just a...

New house has a brick smoker

Sure looks interesting. Where is the smokebox? Is the upper portion the smokebox? Doors to the smokebox on the sides? Is it an offset smoker then?

    Brick smoker exterior heat

I agree with Wess W. My smoker is also cinder block with a firebrick lining and regular brick on the outside. The outside doesn't even get warm after a 24-hour burn - and I'm in central Florida (can't attest to whether snow would stay on it....). The top of my firebox (mine is an offset design)...

    Brick Smoker Upgrading

I built my offset masonry smoker almost 20 years ago now. At the time I really didn't know exactly what I wanted to do for a firebox door and the doors and top for the smokebox. I settled on a cast iron ash clean-out door for the firebox and very simple 3/4" pine planks for the SB door and top...

    White oak

Wow, you are correct about red oaks in the UK. No specie of oak from the red oak family are native to anywhere in Europe - I didn't know that! Here is a link to a good list of oak species divided up into the red and white oak families:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Quercus_species  ...

    White oak

"We only have English oak in the UK, we don't have red or white..." English Oak is a White Oak - let me explain...... I see we need both a dendrology lesson and a wood technology lesson here! Don't be ashamed, it can be confusing. There are indeed three species of oak with the common names of...

    White oak

Just curious as I live near Tampa, Florida. What make you think you have white oak? Pretty much all that is available in my area are various species of Red Oak.[/IMG]

    OFFSET MASONRY SMOKER

Much use out it? Well, I did build the thing 20 years ago.....  Yeah, geesh, countless Boston Butts, a gazillion slabs of ribs, several turkeys, picnic hams, salmon - you name it! I haven't ever used any other smoker, so I can't really say how well it performs compared to others, but I can say...
