Finally starting my Oklahoma Joe Highland

Do you find yourself using this every smoke? Do you open it when you are done with the cook and let it drain while smoker is still warm? What size fitting did you have to get, and did you have to thread the drain tube, or just slide it over?  I just fired my OKJ Highland up today for its...

I also Have made a charcoal basket, however I'm worried its a little to big.. Might have to make a little bit smaller one!  I think the fire size may be my problem, but not sure and still need input! Tuning Plates - best location?

Hey guys, I've been looking at as much as I can on tuning plates (just bought an OKJ Highland) and am having trouble deciding the best place for the plates to rest. I've seen about half with the plates 3 or so inches below the cooking grate, and half with the plates resting on the charcoal...

New - Oklahoma Joe's Highland Smoker

Another question for you, When you installed the extra thermometers, did you have to do any sort of RTV on the inside? Or were the holes you driller tight enough that no smoke leaks out?

New - Oklahoma Joe's Highland Smoker

The Tuning plates are what I have been reading are a thicker metal. I think the Idea behind that is that they are able to distribute the heat better due to radiant heat coming off the plates as well as going around them.. I will try it first with the thin stuff.. no need to drop a bunch of money...

    Finished my tuning plate mod

I noticed this thread is about 7 years old now, and you may not even have this smoker anymore.. But if you do have it, can you take a pic of your baffle plate and how it is connected/mounted? If you don't have it anymore, can you explain how you mounted it? I see the 2 bolts through it, but it...

Thermostats for new Oklahoma Joe Longhorn

Skifreak, Did you do any sort of RTV sealant (or similar) on the back side of your new thermometers? Or did you just drill a hole that was tight enough to not lose smoke? If the ladder, what size hole, if you recall? Also, I cant find the post, but you had talked about using a drop in baffle...

New - Oklahoma Joe's Highland Smoker

Will you be going back to the previous set up with the 14ga steel bolted into the side?   I've been trying to find everything I can in regards to the tuning plates and baffles. Seems for the plates people are going with thicker stuff, 1/4" - 1/2" steel. Not sure how thick on the baffles...

    Tuning plates

Hey Dave,  Im looking at doing a baffle/tuning plate set up for my new OK Joe... Quick question, when looking at your set up, is your baffle plate actually secured to the smoker? Or is it just resting against Tuning Plate 1?

Bone Suckin' Sauce - SEASONING & RUB

Hey guys, I love this stuff (the rub, not the sauce!). But $6 a pop is a lot. Especially when I use half a bottle when I smoke ribs. Does anyone have or know of a rub recipe close the Bone Suckin's?
