instead of black pipe for exhaust why don't you use pipe like is used for venting a hot water tank? Light weight and economical and you can buy a cap to fit it so water doesn't get in when not in use.
I have a MES and really enjoy it. This is one that you can set the time and temperature like an oven. Another plus is adding woodchips without opening the door. They are fairly common and easy to get, small and easy to store, and somewhat economical.

Great job Ikrus. That is a lot of work with a jerky shooter! I did that several times and it really makes you appreciate it when you use a stuffer for the first time.
I have a 30" MES and like most of them there is a hot spot in the smoker where the heat comes up the corner. I have been laying the summer sausage on the racks instead of hanging them and I have been having pretty good success. They seem to be smoked the same without much variation in them.
So you know the danger with it would be pulling to much voltage and heating up the electrical cord. Keep and eye on it for awhile and if it is pulling to much power for the element and the cord gets hot don't do it.
I have a 30" MES and want to build a cart for it. Started thinking about what I wanted and how to do it and then I got this great thought. Who would know better on how to build one than all of you? So what do all of you use for a cart to move your smoker?
