I have a MES 40 as well and this has not been a issue.Most of the drippings end up in the water bowl.Done a pork butt and 2 racks of ribs and a Fatty Saturday and my drip pan was almost dry.
I hear a lot Ofcomplaints about the stock temp probe being way off on the MES. I have done several trials on my MES 40 and hear are the results against my Maverick.Pretty darn close. Must have got a good one from Sportsmans warehouse.See bottom temp.Left is Maverick right is temp probe on MES 40
