I got volunteered to help with our 4th of July BBQ... My buddy's making a brisket and a pork shoulder, I volunteered to make a turkey and a batch of ABTs.
I was wondering if anyone has any creative suggestions for seasonings for the bird? I'm planning a brine, then rubbing it before it goes...
Since I wasn't hosting this year, I only had to do a little something for the Memorial Day BBQ... so of course, the ABTs came out to play!
Going into the smoker...
Coming out an hour and a half later...
And people were fighting over them at the Q... I guess I need to make many many more...

I agree w/ fired up that it's no substitute for pork, but I think it's pretty good stuff. You just have to know going in what you've got.

I think the ABTs can look good. Instead of wrapping the whole thing in bacon, just put it on top like a blanket... if you wanna go all super fancy, I guess you could even tuck the edges of the bacon into the pepper...

I'm fond of smoking chicken wings, my "tough skin" remedy is to toss them on the grill for a few minutes after smoking. Crisps everything right up. I don't see why this wouldn't work for drumsticks as well.
