To have loved and lost, is better than to have never loved at all. This is so true.
I still grieve to this day at the loss of my Bloodhounds. The saving grace is that a part of me went into each one of them. And it was good.

Pops, I know there is probally no need to remind you, but for all looking to buil a smokehouse, here I go. IMPORTANT!!!!! When using gas be careful when lowering your flame. Carefully monitor your internal smokehouse temps. If your temps drop, assume that your flame is out and shut off your gas...
Yes those strainers really do a nice cold smoke. I used them on some jerky that I had dried on top of my home coal stove. Then I took outside and put into the smokehouse and cold smoked via strainer method. Must say it did a nice smoke on the jerky. Only problem is fuel, getting sawdust is a...
Yea with your instruction manual it tells you how to adjust the flame for each valve. there is a 3/8 to 7/16 inch bolt under each valve. By turning this in and out can somewhat adjust the air to gas mix (somewhat). It is a real rough setting, and you probally need to do this when the burner is...
No you can store them at a reasonable room temp, but in the summer I don't have air, except for the bedroom, so in the crisper part of the refer they go.
Also these casings realy take the smoke well. It seems that I can't make them fast enough. I open a bag up and there gone. Every one that...
Yep Thats the way to do it! I did 4 turkeys and 1 ham for Christmas in mine. Talk about nerves? Good way to do um by hanging them. Since ur curing them, you might want to consider a slower longer smoke. You really get the penetration that way. I usally do mine for about 12 hours, bringing the...
Alot of the Yakers down at Indian River inlet Delaware use the hobie yaks. They are very popular with the guys there. They are a bit pricey, but I guess you get what you pay for, and I never herd any bad comments about them. I probally would have kept my yak,but the fact that I am an insulin...
Funny you should ask? About 3 years ago I won a fishing kayak. Being that both my wife and I love to fish, I sold the kayak, and bought a pelican 16' square stearn canoe. Then I bought a used little 4hp motor. Well if your fishin for more than 3 hours sittin in a canoe ain't the most comfortable...
What Store Bought Jerky Mix do you use? I am lookin for a good traditional type mix. I tried the Legg's Terriyaki mix, and didn't care for it. I dry mine on top of my coal stove on a rack. I can do about 1/2 lb every 4 hours.
Pops you might want to consider lining the lower inside 1/3 with some aluminum flashing. This way your covered for higher heat. That wood gets pretty flamable after some heavy smokes. You should see the inside of mine, it is completely black from hickory smoke.
Just an F.Y.I. these casings have been on sale for quite some time. I am not sure, but I think they might be on sale for a short while. Probally till spring, which is soon.
I just bought 7 packs of the 19mm casings. I think they will be safe to store in the crisper part of the refridge. I also...
