for the 2" bung that should be enough i would think(its easier to drill more holes than it is to fill them in) as for the coal basket i would give at least 2" and you really ought to think about an ash catcher of some sort i have a 16" dia cake/pizza pan w/2" walls to catch ashes for about $8...
well there is your problem you obviously have air coming in from somewhere around the intakes i would get some high temp rtv gasket and go to town on everywhere air can get in or escape unintendedly
lol my wife is not very computer literate.. i enjoy having an app that controls my router so i can kick her off and she says "something is wrong with the internet again" ill be in the other room rolling on the floorbut when she finally figures out im messing with her

i agree with this method the small propane torches are not expensive either
but in my 14.5 i can prob get 4 8-10hr smokes out of a 20# bag of kbb IF im running at 225-250 but if i run 300 one load will last around 6-8 hr
i do not use anything in the water pan just foil it for easy clean up.
well cell phone manufactures have been doing it for years providing software updates and such for free but they are constantly coming out with new hardware
i have been having alot of fun trying to keep my computer connected to the internet... it says "No Internet Connection" But the internet would be just fine on my phone. I have to keep disconnecting and reconnecting it in the network settings. sometimes i have to restart the whole computer
The more you smoke with it the better seasoned it will be the more efficient it will be as well... but like said above the combo of water in the pan wind and lack of seasoning ad alot to to with it and running your smoker at higher heats will cause it to eat coal
