    I would say its more of personal taste. Do you like the heavy smoke flavor that hickory or mesquite gives? or would you rather a more mild smoke with a sweet flavor like apple cherry or any fruit wood would give?

    Thanks i mostly cook for around 6 people when i smoke, so i believe the two racks would be good and it seems there is plenty of room between them to cook for a lot more than 6

    Whole chickens are pretty cheap as well but i agree butts are cheap and good, they just take a long time.....But if you want cheap dont even look at the beef, Unless you find something on sale, beef is not a cheap meat for pretty much any cut
