Smokin-It Air Hole and GE Profile Smokers

The paper towels are used to wipe up residual grease carried by moisture. They are not used during cooking or during storage. Nothing wrong with foiling the liner and somehow it makes sense v

    Lodge Sportsman Cast Iron Grill

Mine is well over 20 years old; father's day gift. A terrific little grill. I especially like the ability to choose the grate height.

Smokin-It Air Hole and GE Profile Smokers

On the Cookshack, I foil the wood box lid and bottom of the smoker and poke a hole in the foil so the grease etc goes to the drip pan. On the SI, I have the accessory bottom tray so no foil except for the wood box lid. But it is another item to clean. https://www.smokin-it.com/product-p/bst3.htm

Smokin-It Air Hole and GE Profile Smokers

I have two smokers - Cookshack and Smokin-it. Neither top vent hole has clogged in all the years I have used them. They get a patina from the smoke. Nothing excessive that blocks flow. But a cloth wrapped around a small dowel or little finger will clean off any soft stuff if/when it is...

Looking for advice on what smoker to buy

It depends on budget. The MES is popular around here. But if looking for an all stainless steel unit, Smokin-it, Cook Shack, or SmokinTex. Not listed in any particular but I do have a Cook Shack and Smokin-it and they are great, very reliable. Both companies have a user forum.

    Smoker Deep Cleaning

I used easy off when my 066 was taken over by rodents. Stripped it down to bare metal, rinsed with white vinegar, re-seasoned, and all was well again. Now it is just scraping or brushing off all the loose stuff. Racks are washed after each use.

Interesting Testing on Charcoal from America's Test Kitchen

I have a friend who has family in Mexico and before he got Alzheimer disease, he would bring back 25 - 30 pound sacks of lump mesquite for me. This I used in my Lodge grill and Weber. Good stuff. Always loaded the chimney by hand letting the small stuff fall through the fingers. The smaller...
