PitBull;
sorry for the double post, but when you said heater inside, did you think i was smoking in a heated building? i was outside in a nonheated building if that helps, so it was pretty cold in thier too
Sorry to not have been explicite. When you operate at an ambient temp of 7* the heater...
Hi pitbull; Most all of us using the MES find it does not work at the low temp and still produce smoke
I would imagine that at 7* it was using the heater inside considerably. That is probably why you had smoke production.
Do not think that would be the case in warm weather
Here is another way to obtain smoke in your MES at temperatures under 200*
The principle is smoke production not dependent on the internal temp of the MES.
With this method you can run your digital controller between 100* and 275* and
Always have the same amount of smoke inside the MES.
There...
Tried an image size of only 50kb, same results!
This is the message I am getting
Warning: copy(/home/admin/domains/smokingmeatforums.com/public_html/photopost/data/500/thumbs/chickens.jpg) [function.copy]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in...
trying to upload photo to smf gallery.
Process seems to execute correctly and then it goes to error code 1 - says it can not create a thumbnail.
Got any advice for how to correct this problem
Hi Cousin; LOL
My advice is to put a probe in each bird, relax, and take the birds out as dictated by the internal temps of each bird.
Good Luck
Marvin
Edit meant to say butt not bird, sorry
You should probably PM "Smoked" if he does not pick up on this thread......My recolection is he did try to use sawdust and was not convinced by the results.....for cold smokes he is using his MES as a smoke generator and piping the top vent to another container where the temps are cooler and the...
Have enjoyed the 3 posts and the blow by blow
I make my own wood for my MES now...sawing the limb pieces into disks on a bandsaw (about 1-1/2 thick disks) Then using a chisel split the disks into pieces sbout
the size of a large marshmallow They give a slower and longer burn than the...
Mom used to serve us kids some tongue now and then, literally and figuratively.
Never did acquire a taste for it but find myself awaiting
your next installment with great anticipation.
I am thinking that the pastrami will be more to my liking
I have had good luck with turkeys in the MES @ 225 and smoked with apple chips until the intenal temp of the bird came up to the USDA standard.
Then you can remove it and place in the kitchen oven at 350* or 375* and watch closely until you get the skin texture you desire
The bird will look...
Great start there Chris
You are well on the way to being a good MES er!
Wish my initial encounters had gone as well
Glad that all of us were of some help to you...looking forward to your next report
The tmp range will not be a problem with the MES
Smoke generation at the low temp range will be
You can use it at normal temps and pipe the emissions from the top vent to another container (cardboard box even) if a cold smoke is desired.
More thoughts.......is the door seal leaking?.....Have you tried closing the top vent to 50% until the heat recovers?
I have seen that unit at Sam's and if it has the same wattage heater as the smaller one like mine it is going to take longer possibly.....Run mine at 225* so 240* would take...
