    I have an Okie Joe too, it seems like I need to have my exhaust only slightly open, maybe 1/2 +/- or the temps go way up. Am I using too much wood?

    I had the Trail master also, I don't recommend putting any money into is, save it for a higher quality unit. I have mine for about 3 years and during a cook the ash tray just fell apart. it had completely rusted...and I live in sunny So. Cal where it never rains...I would recommend a Oklahoma...

    I used 1/8" 316 S.S. started w/ 1/4" holes and moved up to 1/2". so far it works great.

    What did you do about the gap on the side by the fire box? I have about a 1/4" gap because of the curvature of the barrel, I was thinking about stuffing tin foil in the gap..bad idea? what do you suggest?
