Beef Ribs, but...
Hi All, The wife thought she did good buying a package of beef ribs - already split into individual pieces! HTH does one go about cooking these individual riblets in a MES30? Is there a weight/time/temp preference? I can't see probing these pieces with my Inkbird... TIA! Russ -

Well, bit the bullet and bought the new element off Amazon and it solved the GFI problem. Shame on me, I didn't ohm the new one, but did think to do the old one (18.5 Ω) after pulling it. Yeah, I pressured washed the inside and checked it after drying on a non-GFI loop to make sure it still works. Still need to check it on the GFI... Russ- raselkirk

The two thing-a-ma-bobs circled in red. My (old & tired) element looks bereft of them. Prolly burnt or worn off. Are they part of the new element? Looks like they might be studs that pass thru the wall and get nutted on the backside... Too late, I PW'ed the be-hay-sus out it this morning...- raselkirk

I've had mine right at 10 years, started out using it maybe once a month but for the past couple years, maybe 3x's a month. Cleaned the insides once a year until it got old, maaybe 3x's total. Thanks, I'll look into it. The wiring inside the rear access panel looks as-new, but the interior of the box is...suffering. I used to clean it once a year but it's been a while since the last. Wanted to post back to say I replaced the plug end and it still trips my GFI breaker. Currently running an extension cord to a non-GFI outlet, no shocks, and thankfully, no tripping off in the middle of a cook. Time to look for a new electric smoker! Russ- raselkirk

Inkbird Feature Request...

Yup, I got fixated on replacing the entire cord. When I saw how much trouble it was gonna be, I did the first thing that came to mind. Next time out, I'll get a new end. The wiring inside the panel looks new, no sign of corrosion or damage. I know the GFI works, I have my landscape lights...- raselkirk

Billy Bob to the rescue! I removed the (4 x 6) back panel to see how hard it would be to replace the power cord. Seems I'd need to drill out a couple dozen rivets and thus, the entire back panel. You may be right. I took another look in the sun, what I thought was molded plastic in the ground port looks more like it was once a metallic prong broke off 1/8" below level. It's not broke off in my outlet though. Oddly, I've never plugged my smoker into any other outlet, and this one is clear...- raselkirk

Went to check ground continuity from the cord's ground prong to case, grates, etc. this weekend. There is no, nor never has been, a ground prong on my plug! There are hot and neutral as expected, and a "bump out" on the side for a ground prong, but there was never a 3rd prong in it. On my plug...- raselkirk

I know the GFI circuit is good. Got the "tingles" when it was on, seems as though when I turned off the unit's control panel, it quit. Agreed on the stall temp varying, though I've read elsewhere (on here) where some have the impression it's xxx° no matter what. It may be however, for them, they're using the same cut/size/shape/box temp all the time. No, but that's my next step. I'm gonna find an industrial dial thermometer...
