An idea for making bisquettes for Bradley smokers

I can report some level of success with the first batch, so just passing along an update of my first impressions. After some more reading and a little experimentation, I took some wood chips and ran them through an old blender, which made a lot of small splintered wood bits. Looks like the...

    Painting smoker

Tried the Rustoleum high heat and also some other stuff sold at Autozone (they stock bbq paints there).  They've all burned off or just rusted through, especially on my firebox. Can't keep any paint on the firebox for more than a couple of uses.  Wonder if tractor enamel would do or if it'd...

An idea for making bisquettes for Bradley smokers

Potato starch makes sense. That's a real good idea. Haven't thought about how to shape them. Saw a youtube of a German guy making them with some cut pipe and electric scissor jack.  Keep ya'll updated.

An idea for making bisquettes for Bradley smokers

Curious to know if folks are having success making your own wood blends for the Bradley smoker.  Got an idea for making them, and the parts are on their way.  A variety of wood pellets in bulk will start showing up next week. I'm going to run the pellets through a corn kernel grinder to break...

    Digital temp and propane conversion

Howdy Fuimus, thanks for the kudos. Getting that air/gas mixture just right is really tough. From what you're describing, I think the reason for that blow back is one of two things: the orifice that the gas passes through as it goes into the burner might be too large, so the gas slows down...

    Digital temp and propane conversion

Thought I'd share some hard lessons learned through this.  - The PID has a built-in relay, so there was no need to purchase a separate relay. - The Honeywell controller is 24V, so a 110V to 24V converter was needed. - The Honeywell controller is low pressure, so the regulator and burner also...

    Digital temp and propane conversion

I took an older high-pressure burner that I had and welded part of the venturi closed, then made a low-pressure orifice for it. I need lots of little blue flames and instead of these yellow ones, but at least there isn't any soot building up on the bottom of the water bowl.
