I have a ThermoWorks Smoke unit that I've had some trouble with intermittently loosing connectivity. Sometimes the receiver and the transmitter loose connection, and will not resync. I've tried turning off/on, going through the sync procedure, etc. They just refuse to connect even though they...
I've been trying to tune my new highland, And I built a baffle and tuning plate. I have also put a 3" elbow to extend the vent to the cooking grate. I am still seeing 25-30* temp differences from one side to the other. I built my tuning plate and baffle out of cookie sheets and they fit pretty...
My MES burned up on Thanksgiving day with about 5* temp left to go to finish the turkey. Luckily there was enough heat left in the MES to bring the bird to 160*. The turkey was good, but the MES is junk. the power unit burned up and probably isn't worth fixing.
I will always have fond memories...
I've fooled the stock sensor... but in the opposite way you need. Same info applies though. You just need the proper resistor in parallel. ohms law.

I remember my first few smokes with my now 2 year old MES. It was awful. I'm a born tinkerer and I was trying to do too many things at once. Took about 5-6 smokes to get things dialed in, and at this point I don't even have to think about it.
I would highly recommend the MES cold smoke...
IMO there is a design flaw with the stock MES as it relates to the chip holder and the element. Since the Chip holder rests quite firmly on the element, there is potential at those contact points for damage to the heating element. As the element heats and cools it will rub against the chip...
Hope these pics help...You are correct, three 90's, and a piece of straight pipe.

I really like my MES cold smoker attachment. I used a couple elbows and a length of stove pipe and moved the cold smoke unit to teh other side of the MES. It doesn't take up any space and lengthened the distance between the MES and cold smoker by about 48 inches.
I've never used a mailbox mod...
I just use easy-off oven cleaner on my masterbuilt. Spray it all over the inside, shut the door, let it sit for about 20 minutes then hit it with a garden hose. Let it air dry for a few days before plugging it back in.
Well I haven't called them yet, so I haven't presented myself at all... My post was simply an observation from what others have posted regarding the issue.
It seems that some people have luck getting Masterbuilt to comp them a new element and Masterbuilt makes others buy it even though the MES may be out of warranty in either case. What gives there?
Mine just started doing the same thing, and is a little over 1 1/2 years old. Just wondering if...
I've done a couple things on mine. First my MES cold smoke attachment is on a rheostat so I can turn down the element. Seems to work well about 75% of max. Second I've found I have better luck with chunks in mine. I do have to split most of the chunks from the bag with a chisel to get them to...
OK, so you tested one heating element lead to ground and got 120V. You tested the other to ground and got 0. While that is correct it doesn't tell you if the circuit would work. The lead that reads 0 should have 0 resistance to neutral on the plug when the controller turns on the element. An...
Actually now that I'm thinking about your voltage test, I'm almost sure the problem is the high temp cutout sensor (button). They probably wired the cutout across the neutral. Instead of on the hot. As a test, cut both leads on the cutout button and twist them together bypassing the cutout. You...
Pull the terminals off the element and test voltage across. It sounds to me like the high temp cutout switch is flaky, but if you're getting 120V across the leads without the element in place I'd say your element is toast.
If I remember correctly the high temp cutout button is wired in series...
