I would not cut the door at 12. You will only lose 1/2" or less of vertical space if you come 2 or 3 inches lower on the tank surface to make the top cut. The bottom of the door can be lower than 9, or at least mine is. I figured the height of the RF plate and put the bottom of the door 3" above...
It won't cause a flow problem like that. Mine flows great and I left the bottom of the cook chamber sticking into the firebox as a baffle. It has the round side out mainly because it needed to be to fit the trailer frame I already had for it. It will be easier to build the door on that flat...
I think your hinges might be a problem built with stainless and carbon. I don't know the exact numbers in my head, but they expand at different rates with heat. This might cause them to jam when you fire it up.
I got the burners mounted for the jambalaya pots. I need to get some metal to make a wind break around them. I also finished the stove. I have to get some pipe and fittings to run from the front where I will mount the propane tanks.
Looks like a great plan. You might want to put the drain on the other end though. The heat from the FB is going to be hard on the seals in the valve if it is on that end.
Another idea to throw at you. Cut one end off enough to use it as the FB. I did that and it works great. Some don't like the look, but I do. It will save some money too, less plate to buy.
Stands made for both pots. Left 6 gal, right 10 gal
I need to finish the handle on the stack cover. I will try to get the new axle and hitch done this week and do a road test. Hopefully it won't fall apart.
I have not forgotten about yall. I have just been busy. I have made some progress on the build a little at a time though. I got the stands made for my 2 jambalaya pots, supports welded in for the toolbox to sit on, handles for the bottom grate in the smoker, stack cover made and installed, and a...
To answer your original question about cost, kinda. It depends on way too many to things to actually make a good guess for yours. I know mine will be close to $2000 when done. It is more than just the smoker and the other things are included in that. I got the tank for free, trailer for free...
I finally got back to this build. It's been a couple months since I have worked on it. I added some latches to the FB door. I still need to figure out what I am going to do for a permanent handle.
My bottom intake did not move very smooth. That C clamp was binding it. I made a different design...
