Good advice above - well except maybe for the neighbor's yard bit  - but I have to confess that I have on occasion flushed some of it down the toilet after skimming and mixing with ashes didn't take up all the liquid. I don't make a habit of this, but if the liquid not too greasy I don't...
Here you go: A YouTube shows you how
Notice that the ring is evenly done with charcoal. I've done it as they do, carefully placing the briquettes, and I've done it just pouring them in and trying to even them out as best as I can. Both methods work. I did learn that piling it deeper makes a...
Glad to hear that you saw the light on the boots and hats (a straw for summer and a felt for winter - which starts at the end of September they tell; no straws after that date).
Before you jump into a different cooker, consider getting a Weber 22.5" kettle grill. Look for the one with the ash...
Howdy, Nathan!
Welcome to SMF, to America and to TEXAS!!
Got your boots and hats yet?
You didn't mention what kind of smoker you're using. Care to share?
Sounds like you're making up for lost time on the smoker.
Again, welcome to the smoke!!
Great pics, Bear!
Hope you had a great time!
I'm 6 years ahead of you. Didn't make our 55th last year. We've got a class member who has a 31 Model A that he brings. I remember him driving it in the homecoming parade our senior year.
Your class was prime for Vietnam. I'm not surprised at...
I like to rub with EVOO then sprinkle with salt and pepper. I then peel and halve about 10-12 garlic cloves. I make a knife slit and stuff the garlic into the slits. Then I take 4 or 5 rosemary twigs and tie them to the lamb. Watch the IT and take off and rest at the right temp and you are...
I would add tongs to the list. You will need the long ones first.
A wise old man told me once that when accumulating 'stuff' the rule should be to buy it when you need it and to buy the best that you can afford. Buying because you think you might need it or buying things is sets is sure to...
For you folks who do pizza on the Weber kettle, I've got a question.
I've had this idea to make a device to cook pizza in my Weber Performer or Kettle. The idea is to make a frame out of angle iron to hold 8 firebricks. The device will have a 1-1/4" angle iron frame on the bottom with...
Howdy, Mom!
I have some and use them sometimes. I don't wrap butts or briskets (haven't tried it and might should do) and sometimes on a long smoke waiting to break through to the right IT, pork butts sometimes begin to break down and fall through the grill. I use mats to keep this from...
WOW !!!!!
What an unexpected and wonderful surprise. To be in such exalted company is, indeed, an honor. I shall do my best to live up to it.
Thank you to whomever nominated me and to Dutch and the team for my selection.
[Number 300, eh? Has a nice ring to it!]
I agree, Chef!
I have found that SPOG (salt, pepper, olive oil, garlic powder) work well on many a meat. It is especially good on poultry. Lamb and pork seem to want a bit more IME, but my palate is not all that good.
