    Counter Weights

Thank you, Joe, for making me feel stupid.  I have thought of using a hand winch, but for whatever reason, not an electric one.  With a winch I wouldn't have to worry about measuring anything and since they are rated at 1,000's of pounds, there is no worry about it's strength.  They are cheaper...

    Counter Weights

I thought of that first and may try it out while there is only one smoker.  The second one will be a while.  It would leave the smallest profile and still be very functional.  However, once the second smoker goes on, it will have to be switched to something different.  I don't think any levers...

    Counter Weights

My second smoker will actually be touching this one when it is added.  I might end up with 1/8" in between them, so even a short one will not work.  It will until then and I might make one like that, but eventually, I will have to go another route.

    Counter Weights

VTMechEng - That is really the only reason for doing it in my case.  I could build a counter weight and will most likely start off with one.  My rig is being built for my vending business and the novelty of it may attract a few more customers to my booth.  I'm not counting on that, mind you, but...

    Counter Weights

I think I will use Dave's idea.  I love the cool factor it adds to the entire rig.  IT is simple enough to do and once it stops, the strain is all on the cables.  As long as they are up to par, it should be safe.  The only drawback is power.  What happens I lose power or have a short while it is...

    Counter Weights

Guys, these are all great ideas, but I have to say that Dave's actuator idea really got my attention. Dave, can you give me some details on what your are talking about? Unfortunately, the photos I have posted are the latest.  We have been held up because of weather for the last 2 weeks...

    Counter Weights

Thanks, guys!  We have been seriously thinking of setting up a cable system.  I think it would make the lowest profile and make less of an impact cosmetically, which I like, but the traditional "pipe mounted on legs angled back over the door" can look cool as well.  Which one is liked more or is...

    Counter Weights

We are trying to decide what type of counter weight to use.  I have seen many different styles that function well.  I'm trying to find or design one that is both functional and cosmetically appealing.  I will eventually have a second smoker behind the one I have now, so they can't interfere with...

    As Promised...

Ribwizzard, I use charcoal and the Minion method for cooking and wood chips or chunks for smoke.  The fire is in the lower part of the box, while the upper part is a warming or holding box. Mr. Daniels, You are correct.  The opening is on the small side.  I am testing a theory with it for now...

Yes I have.  It is in another thread entitled, "As Promised".  Check it out.  It is mounted on the trailer and should be done in a few weeks.  I even posted some picks.

120 gallon RF build....***UPDATE*** patio to the trailer

If you have the means to have something done legally and morally, then it is not cheating.  We all have different abilities, finances, and schedules.  I hired a laser cutter to cut my steel for me and am paying Lex to weld it up for me.  Sure I help where I can, but don't have the skills needed...

Newbie RF build with pics and Questions

Ole JarJar has it worked out pretty well there.  I would have to agree with just about all he said.  It looks good and hope to see it up and running soon.  Good luck, brother.  Can't wait for that sweet Q view.

    As Promised...

Thanks guys.  There will be more in a few days.  I am going to try to document every part of this build.  I tried to post the design plans, but they were in the wrong format and I can't convert them.  It seems to be coming along very quickly at this point though.  All the time spent crunching...

    As Promised...

I know it has been a long time coming, but here we go.  Me and my friend, Lex, have spent the last few weeks building the smoker in the Solid Works 3D program.  Once we were happy with everything, we sent the file to the steel shop for laser cutting.  It took them about a week and we finally got...
