    MESsing around with gloves

Well, gotta be proud of being a goof sometimes. And found a link to these gloves which so far seem to be the cheapest reasonably thick neoprene gloves I've seen. Can't beat the price if they're decent to use. (Can you tell I'm impatient to get the MES and get to smoking?)

    MESsing around with gloves

Well as I await my MES to arrive, I'm continuing to stock up and prepare (and having fun being a goof and building up the excitement too). Today's item was the glove. I was originally planning on picking up some welding gloves, when it occurred to me "Wait a sec, I'm not grilling, and not only...

    Making another MES

Quite possibly. I may be moving in a # of months. If so I'll reconsider charcoal or wood then. In addition to the MES I considered a Primo and a couple horizontal offset. It really came down to what would get me smoking the most often (cause that's the point after all). The ease of the electric...

    Making another MES

Question for you all regarding the 5 day course. I signed up with my email, and it didn't show up. Tried again a couple days later. No dice. Tried via different links in case that one was done. Alas no. Finally sent a note to Jeff asking. I haven't heard back from him yet. That was a day or two...

    Which smoker to get

Depends what you are looking for which will be the general answer people give. If you want ease then propane or electric can be easier, and take less tending. If you are decided on electric, then you have choices of various vertical and cabinet cookers. I assume there are some horizontal too...

    Making another MES

*grin* You caught me out. I used to go by John, Johnny with few and other nicknames, but you know? So many Johns signing up for a pool table at the local brewpub, seemed easier to just go with Jonathan so people knew who the heck it meant, and now I've gotten used to it.

    Barbacoa

I'd heard of cooking the cow head in Texas, but have never seen it. When cooking head, what are the main portions you eat? The brain? Cheeks? Tongue?

    Barbacoa

Mutton vs Lamb One other thing to note is that this probably should be yearling mutton or simply mutton as opposed to lamb. Some parts of mexico would use goat, and others even used pork. Mutton though is probably the most common. In that way a bit like Kentucky mutton bbq.

    Barbacoa

Since I'm going to be doing some of my first batches of smoking on my own smoker soon (as opposed to leeching of friends with smokers), once I've done a couple chicken and such to ensure I have a feel for the MES, my plan is to go back in time to the origin of the word barbeque, Mexican...

    Making another MES

Already signed up, and thanks to you and all the others for making me feel welcome. Nice warm place for a cool winter day. (But not too warm. Have to always remember in a BBQ forum, low and slow ;) )

Another fine MES you've gotten us into

Thanks for the feedback. re: probes, that would normally be my plan, so I'll stick with the standard. re: cover. Darn. I was hoping it was more weather resistant being an 'outdoor' product and I was missing something. Guess I'll figure out a little shed something or other. re: Cleaning. So...

    Making another MES

It was suggested I give a peep here in the rollcall forum after saying hello in the Electric Smokers. Based in Oakland, CA, far away from most good BBQ. Look forward to keeping up with all of you. Considered seriously going with a wood offset, but in the end given location, and otherwise...

Another fine MES you've gotten us into

That's my general view, but noticed folk here don't talk about probes much with their MES, so had me curious, and I figure best to look foolish by asking, than look foolish by wrecking a nice piece of meat :)

Another fine MES you've gotten us into

Just saying hello. Ordered my new MES from Walmart online (Alas the Sams Clubs locally don't have their larger model in stock, and won't ship them from those that do.) Still Walmart has them for ~$175 and free shipping to my local store. Haven't gotten to smoke too much recently, though when I...
