    OK, to be fair, I swapped the controller from the old unit to the new one. Everything seems to be working now. I smoked a bunch of tandoori chicken yesterday and temps held where I wanted.     I would consider putting in a hot plate for heat and installing a shelf for an AMNPS. Then you can set it and forget it.
