    Never had good luck with just water. Have cleaned mine with 0000 steel wool. Looks like a little rod coming out the back. Hi temp limit switch is a flat thing on the opposite side, at least on my MES 40.

    As far as I know the Gen1 have the controller on top at the back. So the answer is yes. Sorry Danred I have a MES and have only used electric smokers. Lots of MES users here so if I were to recommend one a Gen1 30" would be it considering your price range. Good luck o your decision dave...

    If you can't figure out how to test the heating element it might be worth pulling the back off and see if they are burned. Not that hard of a job.

    If you want fall apart tender cook it till 195-200. Any more than that and I find it mushy. You will like the AMNPS

    Maybe vinegar and a small wire brush. What kind of chips are you using? Were you getting LOTS of smoke?
