WelcomeSmokinFatman,
As an owner of the same model, I would recommend that after you season it and before you start your first smoke, you use a Maverick or other external thermometer to verify the temperatures on the different racks. The racks can be at very different temps and some of the MES...
How long have you been brewing? 3-4 years now
All-grain or Extract? Still doing extract with grains. Curious about AG, but looking at all the set-ups, it looks like a bigger commitment
What was the last beer you brewed? NB Caribou Slobber is in the primary
Bottle or Keg? Bottle. I have a...
I called them yesterday regarding issues I've been having with the temp control and off meat probe readings with my MES 40 Gen 2. After going through some troubleshooting, the CS agreed to send out a new micro-controller. Unfortunately, they are out of stock and don't expect any in until...
Has anyone tried the Cabela's Masterbuilt Sportsman Elite Window Smoker (item IK-551258)(MB 20072912)? When I was in the store the other night, I explained to the "outfitter" the temp control issues I was having with my MES 40 Gen 2 that I bought in Dec '12 and she said they had a lot of issues...
On my second Gen unit, the chip loader dumps into a pan. Than pan sits right above the heating element. There is a piece of metal under the element. Is that the deflector that's being referred to?
Here's a thread that explains/shows the differences...
I've used both Fantastik and something called Resolution degreaser. Both have worked pretty well. I found that it's best to try to use a light mist and enough to wet the surface, but not enough to run. If they sit on the gunk for a couple of minutes, the gunk wipes right off. But, to tell the...
Hi hundet (fellow Minnesotan),
I too struggled with the AMNPS and keeping it lit in my MES40. This weekend I finally got it to work properly. I set it up like Todd suggested in one of his posts and had it positioned over the drip pan hole with a 8x8 pan on the rack above it. I had the chip pan...
Those of you that have a 2nd gen MES 40, which cover are you using? I've looked online at several, but the dimensions don't seem to be big enough to cover the rear handle and side chip loader handle.
thanks,
Ron
It seems like one of the two is off on the temp readings. What I've found with mine is that the MES readings seem to be slow to pick up change. My 732 shows the temp change a lot sooner (minutes) before the MES shows the temp change.
Ron
Do you have pic's of the mod? I'm thinking about doing the same, but was wondering if people are removing some of the innards to do it. I don't really like the idea of exposing the element and then fabricating a cover for it.
Ron
I'm not sure that the cast iron box would work, unless you could get it right above the heating element. I don;t think there would be sufficient heat to get the chips smoking otherwise. I have one of the cast iron boxes and use it in my Weber grill and propane smoker, but in both of those cases...
Here's the final product. Thanks to everyone on this site for helping to make my first fattie a success
I stuffed mine with sauteed mushrooms, green peppers, onions, and garlic. I also had pepper jack cheese, tomatoes, and sliced turkey
It was juicy and delicious and was a big hit with...
