Dave, planning on 2 fire boxes when I get a permanent home for it. One close with double wall to do warm stuff, and one a ways away to do cold.

    Another UDS Lid Question

I just got a closed barrel as well, but not sure where you guys are talking about cutting.  Anyone got a pic?

    Hello from Howell

Right now I am probably just going to end up with a UDS because of the ease of making it.  Going to spend some time looking at the fridge today.

    Smokehouse build question

Well based on everyone's comments, and more thinking and looking at some steel, I am going to skip the smokehouse build for now.  Just going to do a UDS instead with the ammo can cold smoker.  Once I find a full time cop job here in MI I will build it at my new place.   Plan will be to use the...

    Smokehouse build question

Ok well I am looking to build my first smoke house.  So far I am looking for a 5'6" tall and built to fit oven grates that I will use for my grates.  Planning on plywood interior with aluminum lining.  Also planning on insulating the smokehouse with either pallet wood, or barn wood stained...

    Smoker build questions

Been looking and thinking.  What about if I were to make the bottom a steel box inside (1/8" or so), with a steel lid as well.  The steel lid for the firebox I would drill out 1/2" holes to make it like swiss cheese to allow smoke and heat to go through?  Or maybe use some lava rock to cover the...

    New Brinkmann Trailmaster Vertical Smoker

Tricky, you know where to find a jacket for one that will keep the temps stable in the middle of winter?

    New Brinkmann Trailmaster Vertical Smoker

Camp, 40's & 50's LOL I was thinking of smoking in the winter time too when it is down in the -10 to 25 degree range.  You Southern guys that think 40's are cold LOL.   This is why I am thinking a insulated smokehouse would work better for me.  Still haven't gotten any feedback from anyone...

    Whole hind quarter?

Hey good idea about the bones, I could use the stock for the homemade dog food we make the dogs.

    Whole hind quarter?

Thanks Wood.  I was just thinking the who shebang, bone and all.  Literally quarter it out and do it without doing any cuts.  I figured it couldn't be much different you would think.

    Hello from Howell

How is everyone doing?  I am finally deciding what to do to have a smoker.  Right now I just moved back from NE where I was working as a deputy, and still haven't landed that full time gig yet here so can't build the permanent house that I want to build.  So I am debating between a smokehouse...

    Charcoal Refrigerator

Thanks man.  I have been kicking around the idea of the fridge, or building a temp smoke house, and buying a vertical Brinkmann as a temporary.  I do know I want to run a wood burner since I hate paying bills, whether it is propane refills, or electric bills.

Didn't know if the foil lined foam board from Home Depot would work or not.
