    Home-built electric smoker (UPDATE)

Sigmo, Glad you liked my smoker. I ended up using a 2000 watt element. It works fine but I do plan on replacing it someday with a higher wattage like I was originally going to use. The person who blasted me for wanting to use such a high wattage element apparently had no clue how an Auber PID...

    Electric smoker build

Todd, the model number I gave you can do that. It has ramp and soak. You can program up to 6 steps into each program. Each step can run either by temperature OR time. And it will automatically turn off the element when the final step is complete. The website has the instruction manual for it to...

    Electric smoker build

Todd, if you search "home-built electric smoker" on here, you can look at my smoker build. It might help you out. I used an Auber instruments SMD 200A PID controller and a 2000 watt element.

Look on eBay. Lots of small low rpm gear motors on there. You should be able to find something that works.

*** UPDATED*** My "electric" fridge build...

I could be wrong , but the heat source has nothing to do with it. What happens when heat rises to the exhaust stack? It will pull fresh air in wherever it can. It's just nice to be able to control the flow a bit.

*** UPDATED*** My "electric" fridge build...

I think putting the smoke box under the smoke chamber is the better way to go. But I would put some kind of an adjustable vent where the air intake is on the smoke box. That way you can adjust the amount of air your pellet tray gets. Too little air and the pellets burn out. Too much air and your...

First Morels I’ve found in years. (My son spotted them)

I've always just pinched off the stem of the morel and left the "root" planted. They have been declining in numbers in my area for years now. I use to find as many as 800 a year. This year I found about 24. There decline might have something to do with the tree canopy getting thicker and...

Those are nice ones. I've been hunting mushrooms for around 30 years and never found any that big. Nice score!

    Double Freezer

Galvanized metal puts off a toxic gas when it gets hot. Its not good to put food on it or any painted surfaces. You might be able to strip the galvanizing off with muriatic acid. I know it strips chrome. Do a google search on it. Some thing should pop up. If it works be sure to neutralize the...
