Thanks. I will buy some mean green. My only question is then for where I have the rtv sealing the one hole that came pre-cut, I put a big glob of rtv to cover that hole on the inside and then some to keep the cheesy charbroil emblem from leaking. What do you recommend I use to seal those?
Looks like over did the application of the RTV on the inside both the firechamber which is where I'm sure the majority of the smell is coming from and inside the cooking chamber putting it around all bolts, the chimney, the logo. Funny thing. I put two thermoters and tightened them down. No...
I did two burns and cooked a whole chicken, sprayed a full can of pam on the inside of the cooking chamber and it still smells like serious chemicals. I wonder should I remove it and apply another type of rtv?
I used the red permatex sealant on all the screws inside the smoker chamber and my grill smells like serious chemicals. Is there something better where I can get all the seal and it not smell?
Man. You're right. It does stink. I was trying to seal all my screws for the smoker chamber, the firebox to smoke chamber seal. I thinkI used too much. My grill and meat smell very much like chemicals. I think I'm going to have to remove the sealant.
I used the red permatex on all the screws inside my charbroil smoker and now when i smoke, the smell of chemicals is so bad, people across the street say they smell chemicals. Should I have not used that much? i only used it because i saw so many people saying its good. I have a good seal but...
I smoked a whole chicken. The grill was sealed very good but the meat and grill still smells like the chemicals of the red permatex sealer I used. Is this normal? Maybe I put too much sealant inside the grill sealing every screw and place where there is a connection. Is there some other type of...
We've stayed at Hammock State Park with our campers before. Mega racoons and other animals at night and we had a screened room attached to our trailer. I think you can see that from my pic. Good site during the day. I sold the trailer though. Would love to get into the comps with you guys.
My wife now states she does not like the taste of the grill ever. I did have some bad smoke times and I think she remembers that yet I've had some recent parties where everybody ate up 2 racks of ribs, two big packs of chicken. She saw them do it and still won't give in.:) Oh well. More meat for...
I did a long burn last sunday. Got the grill up to 550 at times. The red is now black. Still has some odor but not as bad. I plan to try and cook some meat on it today as a test and see how it tastes and if I fall out sick. :) I'll take pics and show the grill later. I got another response...
I guess you're right. I plan to do a long burn with some cheap instant light briquettes and a decent size piece of oak to get it real hot/smokey for 4-5 hours and see if that burns out the smell. My concern is that with the smell if it would end up smelling/tasting like that in the meat. I'll...
Ok. I emailed Permatec and here's the responses. Weird that everybody is using it yet the company that makes it says not to. I'm going with what you guys say and just do another high temp burn for 4-5 hours in hopes to burn off that smell.
Me: Is the red rtv safe to use in bbq grills?
We do...
Thanks Dave. When I ran it saturday for the first time, temps were 350 near the fire box and about 325 near the smoke stack but only lasted for 3 hours and then started to drop. I guess I'll burn it maybe with a full bag and full like you said to get it hot. Would you recommend me putting...
Thanks everyone. I already received the one response which is to keep burning till the smell goes away. Will the orange eventually turn black and that's when the smell should go away? I was thinking of maybe using a whole bag of charcoal to keep it going for 4-5 hours in hopes that will burn...
Hi guys. I'm a retired Air Force guy, 20 years. Recently bought another charbroil smoker. I seen a bunch of posts and youtube videos recommending to use Permatec's Red RTV Sealer. I used it and did an initial burn this weekend and it smelled so much like chemicals I stuck with my older grill. I...
Ok guys. I saw a bunch of posts and youtube videos recommending to use this and i sealed my smoker and did a burn. Got my grill up to 350 near the firebox, 325 at the other end for over 4 hours. I guess I got a good seal but the inside of the grill smelled so much like chemicals, I'm afraid to...
