I would like to do a Armature comp like this but everything around me is KCBS.  I need to suck it up and just enter.

    Gonna build my first UDS

I am actually in the process of typing up step by step instructions of my build.  I think it will be useful to future builders. For my deflector, I made for rings of circles.   For the outer most circle I used 3/4" holes. I stepped down one bit size for each ring.   There was no science to the...

    Gonna build my first UDS

All the water pan really does is deflect the heat from going straight up the middle of your barrel.  I made a heat deflector by using a pizza pan and cutting holes in it.   Some people say a water pan takes away from allowing the juices from the meat to fall onto your coals and having the...

    For Sale: UDS Basket sides

I am building a UDS and had to buy a 4' x 4' sheet of 9 gauge steel mesh. I can make 5 basket sides out of this (10 inches high x 15 inch diameter). I only need 2 of these. Would anyone be interested in buying 1 of the other 3? You will need to supply the ash pan and the basket base.  This is...

    UDS Thermometer

What is a good grate level thermometer to use?  Correct me if I am wrong but I assume the $5 replacement grill thermometers at Home Depot isn't the most accurate.

Where to find an Unlined Drum?

I had a call from a guy who had oil drums (used motor oil).  The price was right and was semi local.  So I am buying two from him.   But please keep this list going for other to use in the future.    I heard Printing shops might also keep ink in 55 gal steel barrels. As for me I will be...

Where to find an Unlined Drum?

The following was posted by a member in the UDS group but didn't  have a response, so I'm reposting here because I have the same question. I was wondering what types of businesses I should call to try and find some open head unlined 55 gallon drums. I've searched craiglist for a couple weeks...

    Jack's Old South Cooking School

I think Banjo hit it dead on the head for me.  Although it would be awesome to learn from the best, I'm not opening a restaurant and really only care what my friends and family think of my BBQ.   If my wife is okay with me spending $750 on a class, then she must be okay with me saving that and...

    Jack's Old South Cooking School

Has anyone on here been to Myron Mixson's Jacks Old South Cooking School?  I have read other places that it is well worth the money.  It would be a big investment ($750 + airfare, hotel, car) but being young (30), I would learn skills I could use for 40+ more years...
