Flame Boss is an upstart competitor to BBQ Guru and I just ordered the 300 WiFi unit yesterday. Like Al wrote, blowing beneath the grate is ideal because it mimics the natural draw of the fire. It gives the stoker the ability either to choke off or stoke the fire as if you were doing it...
Score! As you may already know, spray in a swirling pattern so you don't get the linear run marks that show up in direct sun. I've used rustoleum 1200 degree engine block paint and swear by it. Looks good and takes a lot of punishment.
Nothing to worry about. Even if it's a propane tank and even if sand blasting missed some spots, I did an obsessive 12-hour seasoning fire that burned off any impurities that might've made it through.
I've got a science background and propane is one of the hydrocarbons that is much less scary...
Shirley is the way to go and I couldn't be happier. I went with other cookers and I kept finding myself eyeballing Shirley build quality and videos. I finally caved in and got my baby--no regrets, best Que of my life!!
My Shirley 3/8 CC and FB is my happy place on the weekends. If a thick rack of St. Louis spares takes 6 hours, this one will be ready in 4.5 hours.

I'm a...

They have custom made OKJ mods and they're a reputable outfit. I've personally ordered from them before and they were great .
Land of Lincoln is my birthplace! You'll certainly fit right in. I'm loving the dual smoke stacks. I feel like SMF is a place just like Barrett Jackson is for hot rods! What brand is your rig? Specs?
Gorgeous rig! I'm admiring the half inch thick firebox. I'm a believer since going with 3/8 thick. My wood consumption is less even though my pit is bigger.
Beautiful thing is that you're already used to subtlety in wine making. I also thing cold smoking a tad tougher than the hot smoking of bbq. Low and slow is the only way to go!!
Hallelujah!! Got to cut and paste and save this one. We call them trust fund babies and they're multiplying like rabbits now that word has reached California and New Jersey about our mountain refuge!!
Hi TheThom,
I served in the Navy in Pensacola and that's where I got the BBQ bug being just 20 minutes from the Alabama state line. It's the BBQ taste that's never left me. I separated 7 years ago and have taken BBQ into civilian life. Funny how many Navy vets end up far from the sea right...
