Lava Rock. The heat plate idea reminds me of a Holland grill that I owned. The Holland grill is a fine product but never was happy with the flavor and heat transfer. Heat transfer may be of interest soon as fuel prices rise. Just my opinion. Robert
Help for the newbie. Me. I saw the term "AMNS" and didn't understand the meaning. Figured it out by context. Still didn't get the acronym. After searching other post I found in equipment list. Very clever. I thing this would make a good entry for the Alphabetical Wiki List.

Just installed the replacement parts. The difference I see is the control knob doesn't turn as far counterclockwise. This is preventing the flame being lowered as much as before. Mine is modified with the needle valve. If you install the new parts you may want to add the mod to get the flames...
I just got off the phone with customer service at Char-Broil. They were great and processed the recall quickly. I started the form online last night while at work. I didn't have the serial numbers but the website opened a case anyway. Early this morning I got a phone call. I was still...
I do this kind of job at work at work. I have use OCR ( optical character recconition) software for many years and it works very well if the copy is fairly clean. The first generations of this techinology were very frustrating but later versions may amaze The software that came with my...
My real name is Robert and I smoke meat.
Mine is has a double meaning. The first one is because I'm a computer guy with networking experience. The other is something of a joke for the people who know me. I have an even disposition and seldom if ever get "wired".
I believe this discussion has talked me out adding board inside. I knew the concrete isn't a good insulator but I wanted to use something that stand up to moisture. I was counting on the mass effect I was counting on to provide heat stability. The propane is costing me about a dollar for an...
I use a vertical propane metal Char-broil smoker. It uses more propane than i thought it should because of heat loss. I covered the outside with 1/4 inch ceramic tile backer board. This helped but I noticed the outside was still way hotter than I had expected. I was working on the burn...
I have one I bought two years ago. You can read the thread I just ended about the problem I had with the burner. I also had/have a problem with heat loss the increased the propane usage. The thermometer on mine is off by more than 70 degrees. The bottom is rusted out and the drawer is...
Follow up on burner. Last night I drilled the holes in burner and now have longer blue flame with yellow tips. I checked the results as I increased the diameter of the holes. After the last round of drilling there was no increase in blue flame so I stopped drilling. Thanks for the advice. My...
It's a vertical propane model. I took the burner section apart last night. The burner was clear of rust and debris. I tried moving the gas nozzle all around the burner entrance with no change to the flame (blue at base with longer yellow). I believe the problem is with the burner design...
Hello my name is Robert and I smoke meat. I have been reading this forum for a while and find the information very useful. I use a Char-Broil that I have been modifying. With this introduction I have a question. I smoked two butts yesterday and found something unexpected while cleaning the...
