need some advice on a build.

Just wing it. That is what nearly all of us do. Use the smoker ratio calculators to inform your build decisions, then build it.

Thanks sphumbard! It is almost done. In fact it is at a point that I could light a fire in her now, but I am going to wait until I get the doors skinned.

OK, y'all talked me into it. I am going to move the therms to a more pleasing location. Now to decide where to put them. Drew some circles on the door to help visualize my options. Meanwhile, built the fire grate for the firebox out of 1/2" rebar. Tossed on a piece of leftover expanded...

No, do not paint the inside. You should season the inside similar to the way you would season a cast iron skillet. Spray all surfaces inside the cook chamber with cooking oil, then fire it up and get it really hot. As hot as you can get it, but keep it below 500°F (260°C).

    Exhaust Stack Heights

Quote: The only real downside in this case is getting smoke in your face with a short stack. I would recommend using the 3" stack and make it 36" long. The calculator gives recommended minimums for most dimensions. You don't want to go overboard on the diameter which could cause your exhaust...

Ok,so just to set the record straight... Hydraulic Diameter is the term used to describe the flow loss due to friction in a tube of any configuration (square, rectangle, round, star shaped, any other shape). It is the equivalent size round tube that would flow the same amount. The formula...

Well, I got all the insulation and skin on and tacked in place. Will weld out most of it this coming weekend. A few places will remain just tacked until after the first burn in case I need to make any mods. Here are my therm mounts. The Tel-Tru therms have a mounting kit that includes a...
