Welcome from Coastal South Carolina and congrats on your new Smoker, I have the Masterbuilt Gravity Feed and love it. Not knowing alot about the 980 besides the video and comments but from what I see if I were shopping for one now it would be the 980
Your going to find a wide variety of responses to this question. Everyone has different favorites. I personally like the Gravity fed charcoal units. to me it is as simple as a pellet feed and once again just my opinion but you can't beat the flavor and smoke comparing to a pellet fed.
I basically use old bay in my low country boil. It contains Andouille sausage, baby potatoes, corn on the cob, cauliflower, and normally shrimp or crawdad. The old bay seasons everything up sausage and corn are unbelievable. So just experiment you'd be surprised.
My last smoker before MBGF was an old country. Served me well for a long time. When i did not want to babysit all night I would stick a banjo burner through the firebox vents and on top of the firebox of the firebox grill would be a cast iron skillet with wood chunks for smoke. Held temp and...
