Is trout season open in your neck of the woods? They make good Q. You could get the ol BB gun out and pop a few robins or a rabbit if you have any in your area.
I aint no expert on wood and you folks on the east side have some woods that we dont have out west, so I dont know what hard maple looks like on the bark.
With that in mind. From what I can see in the pictures the first picture, on the left, looks like pine to me with those 3/8" - 1/2" growth...
I'm no wood expert. But it looks like oak on the left side. It wood be easyer to tell if the wood was split so we can see the grain. I dont think its American Sycamore because the bark is not flakey like the pic I found on wikipedia. I'm not sure of the range of the California Sycamore, since...
Bradske Welcome
You may want to look at the places already mentioned as well as Bi-mart,Home Depot,Lows,Freddys. I dont know of any BBQ shops in the area that sell just BBQ stuff. This is the time of season to take a drive through the North East part of the county because everyone is trimming...

Richtee If you are going to respond to my question get the FACTS strait. I dont know what you think you have to gain by leaving a post that makes it sound like I have read or know nothing on the subject. You have made it pretty clear to all your peers here at SMF, that know better, what you know...
I have seen the ones like luv2camp recomended at Fred Meyers and Home Depot in stainless steel. I dont know how big your fire box is but you can probably make one cheaper. Try going to a second hand store like goodwill or value village. See if they have a chicken roaster or small turkey roaster...
I have made fresh beef jerky a couple of times and want to try something different. I want to make some that dont need to be refigerated. I have a couple questions I have to ask before I get started though. Does dehydrating the meat, alone, preserve it? Do I need to add Cure #2 to the recipe to...
