Had a few hands around today so I got the firebox mounted. It's not welded 100% because its cold out, but it is on and looking like a smoker now. I did cut the "sled" so that I could use a floor jack to lift it into place.
The top of the firebox does actually sit an inch higher than the rf...
Alaska; my angle iron for my bottom grate is flush with the bottom of the door opening. It can just slide right out. Hope this is what you are asking. As far as the top grate; if your pit is vented properly you shouldn't "smoke out" the food. Just my thoughts. Thanks.
Howdy, Alaska. Back when I was in Adak, no McDonalds. No fast food joints at all. You pretty much ate at home or got something out of a vending machine at the bowling alley. Going off thread here, but I remember in either '77 or '78, the military flew in a bunch of Burger King stuff and some...
I use briquettes on the bottom, pile on split wood, then torch it up with a propane torch to start it. I only use wood after that. Don't use lighter fluid if you can help it.

Howdy. Looking forward to watching your build. Good luck, read a lot, and ask a lot of questions...Some pretty smart folks here will help you build the pit of your dreams.

Haha thanks Jweller. You are right, a shopping cart would handle better! You can spin this thing like a ballerina. I will put it on my to do list. Maybe I can weld/modify two of them to be stationary. Too cold to look today though. Even in Texas.
Thanks, Nick. Been following yours too. Nice job.
Hey RW, I have some 4" square stock out in my boneyard that I was going to use for the stack. Any problems with square?
Thanks, Dave. So I will either build a plenum or vent through the top. If I use a plenum, I would guess based on your reply, that neither the plenum nor the stack below the top of the cc count towards exhaust volume?
