How much space did you leave between the end of the RF plate and the end of the smoker, from the pic above it looks really close? My 200 gallon build calcs call for a 170 square inch opening at the end of the RF plate (27in wide by 6.3 in long) , I would have thought you needed a bigger opening...
I hadn't cut metal since the planter box in 8th grade metal shop (hint: like 1988) and I'm about halfway through a build like the one in your pic. Trust me, if I can do it you can!
Weev, how has the quality been from GFS? We have one that opened up no long ago near me and I recently went in to price ribs and saw they had a good deal on brisket (~$25 for the packer). I had just scored a whole one the week before so I didn't buy it, was thinking I would go back and give...
Making progress on this thing. Since I didn’t burn out the inside, I have been using a wire wheel, grinder, and flapper discs to get the rust and residue out of the cook chamber. So far, so good.
Next up is to make another door that pulls the top of the tank up. I wanted to get the...
I did an experiment on a snowy Saturday this past winter using a very small quantity of Prague Powder #1 in a homemade Memphis style rub on some baby backs in my convection oven. I was following Meathead's oven recipe in my Electrolux convection oven that holds temp like a champ. I wet brined...
CJ, I am getting ready to install my reverse flow plate and wanted to check back with you one more time one concrete you poured on top of yours. I have been talking with vendors about refractory cement that would be used on the bottom of a pizza oven. That stuff is crazy expensive. If I do go...
My wife pointed out the metal house plant stand in our living room was her uncle's first metal working project. I think she was trying to tell me something...
Looking good Dog. Did you put the skillet in the oven, over the fire, on a grill, etc? Also, what temp did you get the skillet up to? I saw the wife had homemade pizza on the menu this week so I want to give this a shot.
Thanks!
Ryan, I tried this before camping. You can put a Dutch oven on top if your careful, or a cast iron skillet. I didn't cook on it, was just testing the method. It's a good skill to have in a pinch, kinda like a poor man's rocket stove.
I found some pictures to go with my post above:
Right after applying the rub (this was small, about a 2.5 lb roast):
This is after both the open rack cook and then in the dutch oven cook to 199F internal:
Pulled/chopped and back in the dutch oven (note, I added maybe 1/8 cup of liquid...
