Is Heart-Healthy Bacon an impossible oxymoron?

When I use Pop's Brine recipe, I only do 1/3 cup of salt per gallon. Don't miss the lower sodium.

    Sourdough Mishap

Tried your discard starter loaf recipe yesterday, BGKYSmoker. Probably could have left it in the over for a couple more minutes, but it still came out pretty good. Also moved my starter to a larger container.

Things to buy at Asian Store?

Ah! Right, I forgot to add that I buy Chinese mustard powder there and make my own. Much hotter and more flavorful than any store-bought.

Honey(bees) - 150 pounds in my near future

Sounds like a wonderful hobby/business venture. I love honey, and I don't have anything against honeybees. But they, and almost every other flying, stinging insect seems to have a problem with me; like I'm their mortal enemy. My mother used to tell me that they were attracted by my red hair...

Things to buy at Asian Store?

There is a Ranch 99 several miles from me, but I have an H-Mart much closer. Pretty much the same thing. I almost always pick up: Skin-on pork belly Good deals on produce Sesame seeds Rice White, Jasmine, and Oolong Teas Regent "Golden Sweet Corn" puff snacks. Reminds me of Corn Pops cereal, but...

    Bang for your buck steaks.....

Just checked my local Safeway. Ground beef 80/20 is on "sale" for $7.49 lb, normally a buck higher. Regular gas is $3.85. Eggs $7-$10 a dozen, depending on brand.

    Bang for your buck steaks.....

Sonic recently came into my area. I tried one of their burgers, and all I could think of was that it tasted like a school cafeteria burger. And that's not a good thing.

    Bang for your buck steaks.....

I have no doubt that the ranchers are getting the short end of the stick here.

    Will It Be Tough ?

You can do it by hand, but a mixer with a good dough hook is much easier.

    What are you watching ?

I love 1923, but I can't help but think that Sheridan is dragging it out this season. I hope it doesn't end unresolved, and we have to wait another 2 years for season 3.

    Bang for your buck steaks.....

Beef isn't cheap around here, either. I read 2 news articles yesterday, about how the prices of gasoline and eggs have plummeted recently. Huh? Where's that at? Certainly not in my neck of the woods. Prices have been consistently high here for many months. Fake news!

    Sourdough Mishap

I bought a dried commercial starter a while back and decided to revive it about 5 weeks ago. After religiously feeding and tending it for all that time, it just sat there in the mason jar, like a pancake batter. I'd get a bubble or two if I was lucky. But I stubbornly stuck with it. Yesterday...
