A burn barrel would work well with this pit and being able to control temps by only adding coals to it. Since it is now a used grill/smoker, I am gonna wait for the 70% off sale on FB marketplace. Probably less than a 3 hour drive for me. Awesome build. Wish welding was in my skill set.
Lots of sound advice. Thanks for the input. Looks like I am talked out of using hardi and will go with either plywood or cedar planks with it furred out from the metal studs.
Will have to give some thought to a removable screen. Maybe create a frame with shallow rabbit (screen may be too thin...
Didnt think about using the grinder with a guide. Sounds easy enough. Hardest part could be sourcing the sheets.
Not worried about cutting the hardi, I use a face respirator. I am concerned some about the cement board contamination The idea was to get away from wood. So why is there a...
My lack of being able to cut and bend metal steers me away from it, especially when getting into 20 gauge. My skills with metal studs is just enough to be dangerous, kinda like my masonry work.
Here is my outdoor kitchen i built in CO.
Here is mine in MO
I have read through several build threads (havent made it through that many, maybe ten) and was wondering why nobody uses galvanized metal studs in their builds for a warm/cold smoker. I agree if it is a hot smoker ≥ 200° should probably not chance it. I read it has potential to off gas but as a...
I never had any issue with my tray using saw dust. I gave it away along with my mes to my brother a cpl years ago. Not sure if he uses it or not. Never tried pellets in it. It was the 5x8 version. Use a tube now with pellets. Wish i would have kept the mes since getting back into sausage and...
I cant remember working with a firm from central mo. Have with most of the bigger firms, terracon, shannon wilson, geotechnolgy, tsi, … etc. Always looking for quality companies to do work with. I lived in JC for almost seven years before moving to CO for 22. Been back in MO now for six.
I made a couple of those once. Served them sliced up alongside some cheese, crackers and summer sausage at a big bbq party. Had several people come up and say this is really good, what is it. Most didnt believe me when I told them, couple spit it out even though just said it was delicious. I...

Looks great. I am smoking two loins for cb tomorrow. Hope they look as good as yours when done. I have two teenagers so don’t have to worry about it going bad.
I trim it up and slice into 1” steaks and vacuum pack them into bundles of three. I use my brisket knife since it spans the whole width. Freeze the fat trim for sausage. Wish I could find a deal like that. Last whole choice boneless I got from costco was $16 / lb. Used to get prime til prices...
I think you have inspired me to do this for my 20th anniversary this year coming up in few months. I did not realize costco sold A5. Good to know. It looks like a fabulous meal. Fresh cut fries are the bomb too.
My last dishwasher was a bosch. Didnt dry very well but washed well and was quiet. Replaced with a thermador which puts it to shame. Not sure you can get one in your budget though. Third rack is really nice.
Check the gas orifice in the burner to make sure it isnt clogged. Spiders like to spin webs in there. It could also be a bad regulator or wrong size or maybe have a needle flow valve that isnt open completely. Another possibility may be it has natural gas orifice instead of propane. Good luck.
