Personally I think there much better pellet smokers out there compared to the traeger. I had nothing but issues with temp fluctuations. I ended up with a Rec Tec and haven’t had an issue.
I think you will find most people for use the probe that’s is part of the smoker. Most everyone use ThermoWorks or another brand of temp probes. To be honest I only use a ThermoWorks thermopen now on poultry. With pork and beef it’s just color and tenderness with probe
I’ve had the timberline and the GMG Daniel Boone. Far from quality and reliability that you get from Rec Teq. Never had a camp chef or know anyone personally who has one. Of course this is just my option after using 3 of the units
I am sorry but Rec Teq is on a whole lot better level than traeger, GMG and camp chef. Yes there are better units than Rec Teq like Mak but they are pricey and more than most people need
You will spend more money in the long run by going to a traeger or Daniel Boone because soon you will realize that they are not that great. Get the Rec Teq, if pellet smoking isn’t his thing you will be able to sell it quickly.
I have a Rec Teq bull and it doesn't take that much maintenance. I vacuum the firepot and interior of the unit about every 4 to 6 cooks which takes me about 3 to 4 minutes. Use good pellets and you will get less ash to worry about. Changing pellets isnt a big deal I just scoop them out and add...
