    I guess that the loose connection caused corrosion and eventually completely burned through the connection. It is now a big blob of melted metal.

    I finally got around to trying to figure out what went wrong with my MES 40. Guess what I found at the heating element connection.take the 5 minutes it will take you to check your connections.

    I don't see a problem with cold smoking for 30 min. First. I would try a small batch first with a few cold smoked and a few with a couple drops of liquid smoke and see which you like best.

    I also agree about the vertical stuffer but go with a 10lb. , Especially with batches that size. It makes life MUCH easier.

    I am using pops wet brine also for the first time. Its alot cheaper than buying the BBB cure in the box that I have used previously. I smoke for around 8 hours( cold smoke) and then slice raw and vacume seal.  Good luck and post those pics.

    Only problem I see occurring with the drilled holes is your stuck with what you have, and cant tune it after. but I like the idea of it. Oh Yeah. Your smoker looks GREAT!

    I'm not sure. I'll need to check it out thoroughly but I didn't feel like it after all that happened. I hope it's fixable though.
