I'm picking up a sheet of expanded metal from my dad's scrap pile tomorrow. Going to make a charcoal basket.
Fire bricks on their way from Amazon as well
The first photo in my last post shows the original stack location, which was back right.
Several smokers were made fairly similar during the time period this one was built. Hard to say 100% it was a brinkamnn without seeing the original chimney or other identifying marks
After work I came home and started cleaning the mystery pit.
Took all the grates out, shoveled the large bits and vacuumed the rest.
Then I took a ball of aluminum foil and scrubbed every bit of the inside.
Sprayed with olive oil and dumped in half a chimney of Cowboy charcoal with one hickory...
Original location for sure. If it was modified it was done well.
I don't think the fella i bought it from had the skills to make something that looks so factory, but I could definitely be wrong
Went to Lowes and got hands on with a new OKJoe. It made me feel way better about the quality of the pit i just bought.
The new Joe was no thicker than this mystery pit, and I already have a smoke stack at grate level.
Sounds like I will test drive before putting the wrench to it.
Is the hole between fire box and cook chamber normally that large on other offsets? In my head it should be about half the size it currently is.
