I timed mine today and it was about 4 seconds on and 4 seconds off. Probably same as yours. I heated mine up to set temp of 180 in 70 degree ambient when it finally held around 215. Not the end of the world but I won't be doing any cold smoking on it.
I disagree about the design flaw. I think...
Yeah, I don't remember what brand they had but they did have one random bag the last time I was in there. Will check it out when I get low as the price was reasonable but not a brand I immediately recognized.
As a newbie smoker from SF-BA myself I am trying to figure this out as well.
I purchased 200lbs with my grill and so far I am still trying to burn through that (saved on shipping) (so far only burned through about 30lbs through 7 long cooks which I think is great)
However afterwards I will...
So I too have a Rec Tec Mini and while I do not live in AZ (CA) I also get higher temps even with lower ambient (75-85).
The main reason I wanted to be able to smoke at 180 was because there is higher smoke production at lower temps. However this has NOTHING to do with the actual temperature...
The only thing I worry about with pellet grills vs. other grills is that they have a lot more electrical and moving parts, which tend to be more expensive, limited 3rd party options etc.
It seems like it is in good condition but again it is 4 hours away, not sure I want to drive out that far...
Hi all,
Been looking to grab a PG500 but I am wondering whether I should get one new, or there is one that is from 2012 used semi-nearby.
Price difference is about 50% off for the used one, requires me to drive +/-3 hrs to get it and since its from 2012 comes with no warranty. Pictures look...
I think overall what I need is to be able to sample what comes out of a pellet or electric smoker. I have only had out of a stick burner and I don't know anybody who has an electric or pellet smoker in my area (nor cal). I think its hard to make a decision just based on a lot of subjective...
Good point. I am on the top floor so it shouldn't be a problem. My current gas grill is against a wall but I would probably put the smoker against a far railing so it doesn't turn the side of the building black.
So it probably comes down more now to either a smokin-it #2 or a rec tec mini...any...
Hi all,
Long time lurker first time posting. Really interested in smoking my own meat, looking to get something to get started. I need something either electric, pellet or propane since I live in an apartment complex where they do not allow charcoal or wood bbqs. I also like the convience of...
