Timneo's UK UDS Build (Lots of pics)

Five hours in the smoker, though the first hour was difficult keeping it to temp. Last three hours had it dead on 230'c. Got hungry and pulled them out earlier than I should have. Good first smoke. Used the dry mix from the paid for recipes but mustard made it a bit too spicy for what I'd...

Timneo's UK UDS Build (Lots of pics)

Just to let you know when it warmed up, it set fine. Took weeks. Just the cold and wet UK climate. Made a basket out of old oven trays and stainless steel oven grids. It worked better than the old Morris minor wheel we used to start with. Still needs more work doing to it.

Timneo's UK UDS Build (Lots of pics)

Why so quiet?  The paint didn't set.  Too cold I think.  I'm going to have to strip the barrel (not hard, the BBQ paint just rubs off so maybe some rubbing alcohol to remove it) but I'm going to wait for it to warm up a little.

UK Smoking wood supplier review - Goulden Hardwoods

As I don't have any experience in smoking, I want to use lumps in my UDS I'm building. I found that Goulden Hardwoods had a nice range of woods and was willing to put together boxes of mixed woods so you're not stuck on one wood. Prices wise I've seen as much as £5 a kilo (not Inc P&p) of...

    Roll Call

Added my UDS build for the UK http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/t/258334/timneos-uk-uds-build-lots-of-pics Hope to get it finished next weekend so I can season it.  Then in a couple of weeks actually smoke something in it!

Timneo's UK UDS Build (Lots of pics)

Thought I'd separate the original discussion with the UDS build pictures.  Gary and I completed most of this build from about 10:30am to 5pm in the afternoon.  Paint still drying, it's a bit cold (7'c) and it's got a bit dark over here in the UK. I couldn't find a lot of common fittings you'd...

Can you tell what it is yet?

Managed to fit in a pickup last night for the grill as it's sort of on my 155m drive home.  It's in much better condition than I thought which is good.  I'm going to sort out full photos and I've been reading and gathering my thoughts on everything as well.

Can you tell what it is yet?

My existing step bits haven't been big enough for the job and I had an "emergency" job to fix a laser cutter which required a large hole enlarging, so I bought a rather expensive step bit from screwfix which did the job.  It looks like it'll probably do this job as well so I'm fairly ready to...

Can you tell what it is yet?

Almost got all the parts.  My 54.5cm folding edges weber style grill pan arrived, temperature probe and paint! All stainless bolts, washers and nuts as well. Still no idea how I'm going to attach the copper 22mm pipes & valves to the side. British fittings aren't quite as snug as US ones, so I...

Fingers crossed but it is a right PITA getting the right pipe fittings to do it!

Can you tell what it is yet?

First post! Never smoked a thing in my life, but really, really looking forward to doing so. Two weeks ago I wouldn't know what a UDS was... This week is a different matter! What do you think I'm building? Didn't make sense to buy a 2nd hand barrel - I'm in the UK - I have two 2nd hand...
