RF calculator and one 500 gallon commercial smoker, huh?

Okay, I got a change to play around with one commercial 500 gallon RF smoker from very reputable manufacturer. Did some measuring and for the fun of it tried the numbers with Feldon's. Recommended firebox size: 38500 cubic inches (has 54.4% of that, at 20933 cubic inches, insulated) Number of...

RF sized according to calculator, major hot spot on the other end AWAY from FB!

It goes down about 2-3" and I've cut it on a 45 degree angle to try to reduce the friction with the air exiting it. I can tilt my cook chamber as much down as I want and still the heat distribution is the same.

RF sized according to calculator, major hot spot on the other end AWAY from FB!

Thanks, As said, to this date I haven't found leveling have any effect on my temps... But I'll keep working on it. Where do you measure that 2 degree level? Grates? Baffle plate? Just general level on the trailer?

RF sized according to calculator, major hot spot on the other end AWAY from FB!

1/4" baffle plate. Around 7.8" from the centerline, should be equal to the throat area. I was thinking of making it smaller... I don't think shortening it would help any, and that would mean making a new drain... The plate above the guides is as explained, I tried to remove the hot spot with...

RF sized according to calculator, major hot spot on the other end AWAY from FB!

Hi all, I've been using my 160 gallon RF for a few years now. It was sized according to Feldon's, but generously so that every major measurement was made 1.5x what the calculator said. I also added upper air inlets later on. Here are the stats: Cook chamber size: around 5.5 feet x 24.4"...

Diy PID & settings for pellet smoker?

Hi there, I salvaged a Chinese made pellet smoker that had electricity problems (similar to Traeger Texas Elite). I ripped out all the electronics and verified that all the mechanics work (auger, fans and heat element). It actually had Ortech made controller, probably identical to the real...

    New build from Sweden.

How big are the grates and the overall outside dimensions? Are they "standard" oven grates, or did you make those also? I think I'm going to build a BWS clone also, just trying to decide what size. I'd need a lot of capacity, but still ideally it should fit into van upright...

Weird temp problem on new 160 gallon build!

You're right, my "upper air vent" was just a tad too low. Not by much, but maybe an inch higher would have been better. Since the last time I've added a second upper air inlet which is around the center of FB, sealed my FB and CC doors well with gasket and temporarily lowered my chimney to the...

Weird temp problem on new 160 gallon build!

Well not according to Ribwizzard, who at the time of my built I considered the pioneer of the upper air inlet.. Here's a post from long time ago when I asked about the intakes: http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/t/157515/intake-styles I am aware that Ribwizzard has since built fireboxes with two...

Weird temp problem on new 160 gallon build!

Still having problems, I don't know why it ran more steady previously... The fire method was the same. On the far end away from FB top shelf I was running at almost 400 F when on the bottom shelf closest to FB at around 250 F. I did some testing with my IR thermometer and measured my baffle...
